fourdoor,

Why does it say flywheel horsepower on the top of the chart? Or does it say "FLY" whp?

With the dynapack dyno you are able to put in a "correction factor" to give you flywheel hp instead of HP at the wheels.... as you will notice the correction factor (middle box on the right) is 1.00 meaning that the results displayed are HP at the wheels. If that number was "1.15" that would mean the wheel HP was multiplied by 1.15 to give the results on the graph. Get it?

Is there a way to send in the stock turbo and get all the tiAL wheel, 10.5hotside, and 20g compressor or do is it that we can only buy it with no core?

Fourdoor,

Our sheets look similar as far as peak hp and hp at redline. I have a little bit more of a peak to get the 400+ on my sheets, interesting though, thanks for posting them.

Malibujack,

The 280's made an improvement over the entire RPM band over the 272's.

I am going to test the 16g/tial/10.5 turbo on the car also.

The only way it is possible to send in your stock turbo and get back the 20G/10.5etc turbo is if I decide to buy some stock turbos back for cores. At this point I don't know if I am going to do that or not. Have to see how the orders go.

O.K. started testing the turbo yesterday. I only got to make about 6 pulls before I had to leave. With the injector change I spent those pulls trying to make quick boost adjustments and AFR adjustments.

I am going back out on the dyno now to see what I can get. Keep you hopes up guys, I am.

Well, I am done testing this turbo. I have tried just about everything I could think of to get it to make the power I was looking for and can't.

I will tell you guys this. We tested the turbo with the ti/al wheel and the 10.5 hotside. After trying what I could to make power we switched the hotside to the stock EVO housing. The car gained 12 ft lbs of torque and quite a bit under the curve with the smaller hotside.

I am disapointed and pleased at the same time. I am disapointed because the turbo is down on power from the stock unit. The car was at 382 whp before and now is 351. Torque is down from 368 to 351 also. I am happy because atleast we have a turbo, it stayed together, the compressor wheel still looks great and the turbo spins for a long time after the engine is off.

I am going to give this wheel back to the machinist and have him trim down the inducer on it and then have another turbo built. We are close guys.

Right now the car is having the 16g/ti-al/10.5 turbo put on it. This is the turbo from the MR's. I am going to see how it does compared to the '04 style turbo. I want to also varify that the power is still in the 380 range.

Thanks,

I think they are both talking about the BOV spring.... if not ignore my post

In my tial BOV I switched from the 11 lb / in spring (thats pounds of pressure per linear inch of compression, not psi) to the 7 lb / in spring and it completely eliminated compressor surge in my car. The heavier spring gives you more sound, and keeps the BOV closed at idle, but results in reversion back to the compressor wheel when you lift off the throttle at anything other than full boost. Since I am converted to speed density, the heavy spring is pure "sonic bling" at the cost of possible turbo damage... not a good thing. The upper chamber of the tial BOV is larger than the surface area of the plunger, so the only function of the spring is to push the BOV closed when the intake manifold vacuum decreases. Mine closes at around 10 inches of vacuum now.

After you are into boost, (lets say 20 psi) you now have 20 psi in the upper IC pipe, and 20 psi in the intake manifold. The BOV plunger is aprox 2 square inches of surface area and the diaphrame area is around 4 square inches of area. That gives you 40 pounds of force trying to push the valve open and 80 pounds of force holding the valve shut. Come hel or high water that valve is not going to leak no matter how light a spring you use in it!
