Just out of curiosity, at what rpm did this turbo achieve full boost, and did it hold full boost until redline. Not that anyone will ever run this prototype, but I'm just curious.

Don't mistake Tial BOV with Ti/Al turbo components of the MR 16G turbo. I believe what they are speaking of is the actuater spring, which as Malibu stated is at 11psi (10.5psi).

Dave,

Do you have any compressor surge at light trottle on the dyno. My car surges like fourdoor said. Anything below 10psi of boost and it surges, so i just ordered the spring. I was awaiting for you to answer my pm but i know you are very busy today testing the 20G for us.

This wheel, which I am referring to as the "20G" made less power than the stock turbo. It is not an actual copy of the 20G, it is larger. It is already on its way back to the turbo shop for some modifications, I should have it back here for Friday for more testing. If the changes don't pick the wheel up then we will re-cut the compressor wheel to the actual size of a true 20G wheel and test again.

I am not copying the FP Green, not the turbo I want to run.

The RS is warming up on the dyno right now, I am testing the 16g/Ti-Al/10.5 housing today. I may drop the HKS 264 cams in today too if we aren't too busy to get that cam test out of my way and get you guys the information.

I guess the spring I am using on the actuator is 11 psi from what you guys are saying about what comes on them.

As for a BOV, to be honest, my car has not BOV on it right now. It may never have one back on it. We run a lot of our race stuff without one on them at all, as I have said in the past, I haven't seen a turbo fail from not having one yet.

Wait, your running no BOV at all? So when you let off the throttle the excess pressure goes where? Through the wastegate? Im confused. Please explain why you would do that ! Adavantages/Disadvatages - street car ok?

Yea that is a great question

Also im getting a bit of surge at low boost and i'm kinda worried about that

Is there alot of possibility of damage? (i have the stock 04 BOV is there a way to fix or modify to get less surge?)

Dave your knolledge would be appreciated

You shouldn't see any surge problems with the stock BOV and the stock turbo, that is odd. I don't see it causing any damage. Buick Grand Nationals never came with a BOV. They are automatics, but you are still on and off the gas under boost. The turbos on those cars will last 100,000 miles without any troube. I believe the entire need for BOV to be exaggerated.

I get no WHOOOOSH when I shift, I get the 3 stooges, woo woo woo, but no yuk yuk yuk. haha, now that's funny I don't care who you are.

The only advantage to not having the BOV is the absolute fact that there is never a leak.

Does the throttle plate on an automatic ever fully close when shifting though?

Dave, I was refering to the above quote. I got a quick imagine of Larry the Cable Guy walking into your dyno bay offering to tune the RS for you!!

I thought the remark was very funny.

I actually think the biggest risk (not taking long term abuse of a turbo, since we don't know how that would affect this turbo) is blowing off a hose when the pressure builds until it can surge back out of the turbo or open the throttle plate again.. Actually, my only experience with inadequate venting is the throttle plate doesn't close fast enough and RPM's would rise between shifts, but that has been my personal experience with a BOV that didn't open correctly until I adjusted it.
