Intercooler piping worth it?

Alright I basically don't want to use the minibatery kit to upgrade my stock piping. So I were to stay with stock on a bigger intercooler would I really lose that much power. And I understand you don't gain power with this kit, you just don't lose as much from heatsoak etc.

I still don't understand why people are upgrading ICs on stock motors. While everyone says the stock IC sucks, I have yet to see any hard data saying so.

I'm not saying an aftermarket wouldn't be more efficient. What I am saying is for the cost of a new IC 500$+ and piping, I think the $$ can be spent elsewhere to make better gains.

Why are you contemplating a larger IC? What are your mods?

I am in the process of ordering 272's, gears, tbe w/cat delete, fuel pump, intake, and reflash. So I was curious if piping was really worth it now and once I did a bigger intercooler. thanks

The lower IC pipe is going to give you the most bang for the buck here. The difference is more apparent from the driver's seat with varying throttle positions (on and off boost) than on the dyno. An upper IC pipe is not going to give you much, and neither is a large IC with your setup.

Dyno and street testing show that the OEM IC to be sufficient for just about anything you throw at it short of tossing a larger turbo into the mix.

Check out some of the Buschur parts testing threads. I think he got 11hp to 23hp depending on what mods he tested, at the wheels by upgrading the FMIC.

Recent independent dyno AND track tests by two different forum members revealed no appreciable gain from a larger IC at the 360-380whp (DJ) level.

Gte a lower IC Pipe, the stock one is TERRIBLE.... When I upgraded mine, it made such a seat of the pants feel. Better spoolup, turbo hits harder, and more power. get atleast a Lower IC pipe....

Ditto.. The lower one made more of a difference compared to the upper.

The main purpose of me changing my ic piping was to just get rid of all the rubber. It is also more reliable as my upper ic pipe has no room to blow off even if the clamps come loose.

I didn't notice much top end difference in power, but there was a very noticeable difference in power during the boost onset.

Is it worth it? For what I paid for my Helix pipes, yes.
