Great idea there!

Mounting a DSM turbo upside down alows you to have the compressor and exhaust housings on the correct side for an EVO application without having to go to a special exhaust housing that has that kink in it that the ATP kit has. This header with the correct downpipe will allow ANY turbo made for a DSM to be used on the EVO....

Awesome idea!

Yes that is a Forced Performance turbo. It is the only one i have seen that looks like that. My friend has the same exact turbo as well so it makes it a little easier to tell :P Switzer does good ****. Im glad to see more of his work come out.

runner length on turbocharged 4 cylinders (high rpm high hp) has been found to be optimal at around 12-16 inches in length. my friends have done testing between short runner log type manifolds vs. long runner equal length merge manifolds and on the dyno there was no loss in hp down low but in the mid range and top end it picked up 50-60 whp.

it has to do with reversion of exhaust gases back into the cylinder. i have a top mount manifold on my other car with similar runner lengths. the design has already made in excess of 700 whp.

FWIW, I don't see how one could get an equal length runner setup on a 4cyl engine without 12-16" runner length anyway.

We were waiting on the head to come back from the machine shop and I decided to add an HKS Hypermax coilover suspension system, so we are still waiting on dyno numbers. Switzer Performance Innovation is also adding an all wheel dyno to their facility so Tym advised me to have the tune done with this. But I did not forget about all of you evo brothers and I will have a full write up and pictures ready soon!

Are you worried about heat that close to your hood
this is incorrect... it actually looks like an fp or wannabe fp turbo wtih that wg on the hotside... very nice setup with a very long dp... i'm guesing this is a 3052...

also... what kind of bracketing are you running... the first thing i noticed was that that looks like it wants to crack right at the flange.

The advantage of the twin scroll design lies in the fact that less energy is lost per pulse because emptying the primaries into two smaller collectors is more efficient as opposed to one large one. The reduced collector volume does a better job of preserving primary pulse energy in making the transition from the primary into the turbo housing, which results in better spool characteristics.
this is where i contest... i believe that the twin scroll design as mitsu explained it is to reduce reversion... the twin scroll takes two pulses and shoves them into one seperate "collector" although i wouldn't even call it that because the diameter doesn't change significantly enough (as compared to those pyramid bell shaped deals on custom manis). the benefit of this is that if you one a single collector design (as opposed to a twin scroll) when the pulses merge they travel back up the primaries that are not coughing something out at the moment (reversion) AND this makes you lose pressure that would otherwise spool the turbo. and of course with a short runner pulse tuned cast mani like the stock one... the twin scroll becomes a necessity because you can't stack pulses in the runners.

and i do believe there is SOME benefit to long tube design and i've said this before. i think that the longer your tube the more pulses you can "stack" in the tube which means when they get to the collector... less stuff can travel back UP the primaries because something is on it's way down to push it in the right direction. this of course creates back pressure but that can be minimized with a good collector design. it's all about minimizing the evils, back pressure is gonna happen no matter what... you have a wall sitting on the end of your header (turbo).

I am not sure on the bracketry, but we will see how it holds up soon enough. Yeah it is a fp turbo.

Any news on dyno numbers on this thing, it is a work of art. I love FP turbos, they kick ***. We are almost finished with an install of a FP3065 on a 2g DSM, we are hoping for some good numbers. Keep us posted.
