An M5 is a total monstrous car on the highway with someone who is willing to push it without any remorse. Those who claim to have spanked one on the highway with their slightly modded EVO
, more than likely whoever was driving that M5 was not giving you all that car had to give trust me.
For those that know me, and remember "the 4BANGR" I had BR500 turbo,272's, big greddy fmic,680 injectors, walbro,AEM engine management, full exhaust and a few other tricks, making 440 whp, ran mid 11's consistantly and know I DRIVE THE HELL out of my car, and guess what? I ran one on the highway, was pushin the hell out fourth gear, shifted to fifth in the red zone was pulling beyond what the speedometer can register and that damn M5 was still pulling away
.
Say whatever you want about modded EVO's, but reality is the M5 is a total monster with a lunatic behind the wheel, and no matter what you think about what you read in magazines, the M5 is one tough nut to crack on the highway..........and THAT IS REALITY
My 4BANGR was one tough nut, but ultimate top end is still not an EVO's sweet spot
Oh, and BTW just ask BIG AL from Dynoflash who has probably the most modded EVO on the streets if he thinks he can walk an M5 EASILY on the highway......he might pull it, but not by much if at all. He had one sick luxury sport 4 door modded to hell and knows what they are capable of on the highway........................

Two of my friends have M5s with a Dinan stage 2. I got the Evo up to 145 on the highway and he passed me at 170 like I was just standing still. The M5 is insane on the highway. On the track it's a different story. At Gingerman raceway the M5 are slow going into a corner and slow coming out. I had no trouble keeping up with them. Definitely not track cars.
Forget it, the M5 is faster just like the big Benzes, Porsches, etc. The EVO is a nice car but it's not by any means the king of the autobahn...... The EVOs top speed is around 157, those big road cars can run at nearly 200 mph!! Hell the Mercedes Benz is factory limited to 180 mph.... The EVO would have to put down 500 or more whp to achieve those speeds.... That's pretty impractical to attain.......

Looked stock to me......but I had a stick '98 M3 and that was insane with just exhaust and a Dinan tune, so trust me an M5 does not need anything other than what it comes with to pull away from just about any EVO out there...........

Don't be misled by bench racing with peak power numbers. Peak power doesn't win the race. Average power wins the race. This fact is what gave birth to the term "dyno queen".
The M5 has a 400hp V8 and loads of t-o-r-q-u-e all over the powerband, unlike the relatively peaky turbo 2.0L. Furthermore, it seems that the EVO catches air like a parachute at speed, while the M5 is an aerodynamically slippery car. In other words, the M5 requires less hp to accelerate at the same rate as an EVO when air resistance becomes a factor (e.g. above 50-60mph). The higher the speed, the more the advantage goes to the M5.
This is why if one tries to equate what happens in a real road race by comparing short 1/4 mile E.T.s and peak power numbers, he's going to become very confused.
