installed cams, loud lifter noise
I installed the Revolver cams and vishnu cam gears today, and now have a really loud lifter noise. I searched and found some videos of other people with a similar noise but this seems much louder than that. I didn't bleed the lifters and am wondering if that is what is causing the problem. It seems pretty constant at any RPM. I checked the gears and the timing marks line up, so I don't think it's out of time. Any help is geartly appreciated.
My bet is if you bled the lifters you would greatly reduce this noise. One guy had the same problem you had and as he went through and bled the lifters, he actually found a collapsed one. Once all were bled and the collapsed one was replaced, he said she ran as quietly as stock.

welcome to the fun cammed 4G63 sound.
I mean, this noise is REALLY loud. It way overpowers the exhaust sound which is already loud to begin with. Thanks for the input guys, I'm going to tear back into it tonight and bleed the lifters, as well as replace the valvetrain with the new supplied pieces that I didn't do the first round.

That would be me. What I did is took out all the lifters soaked them in parts cleaner. When I was getting all of the crap out of the lifter I noticed on one of them it wasn't pressurizing like all of the rest. I replaced that one, put everything back together and the car ran quiet as hell, quiet as in the term of when I pulled into my garage I could hear the turbo spinning at idle, no joke!!!!
24 hours later I was drivng thru the park by my house and noticed a noise, a noise that I have heard before, DAMN it was back. My next step in the quest for a quiet valvetrain is to replace all of the lifters and start fresh. If the sound comes back, well it's something I'll have to live with.
I am still looking for the company that sells the lifters for $8-9 a piece, I saw a thread a few weeks ago with this company based out of texas and now I can't seem to find the thread or the companys name. So if anyone out there has any info on this, I will be greatful. Screw paying Mitsu $40.10 per lifter.
I know that AMS has the revised lifters for $256/set of 16. Buschur has solids for about the same price. But If I would go to solids (most likely later this year) the valvetrain noise will always be there.
Is the revolver cam lift the same as an hks cam?
If it's higher, maybe you hear the retainers maknig contact with the guides / valve stem seals???
Does the car run ok despite the loud noise?
Just to be safe, I would check to be sure all the lifters are where they're supposed to be!
How & why?
If oil pressure pumps the lifter up..... Why would bleeding the lifter & then having the lifter filled up with oil upon start-up be any different then just firing up the car on any given day?

Here is my theory. If the lifters are not bled before the new cams are installed, there might be some added pressure on the lifter that will cause abnormal wear inside of the cylinder part. I noticed on the lifter that I replaced that when I pressed the lifter down it seemed that it was getting caught on some type of ridge and then it completly compressed. This might be the cause of the taping sound where the lifter cant fully extend and the rocker it actually rattling against the cam lobe and the lifter ball. Once again this is only a theory and is not meant to be a solve to the problem, it's just something I have noticed on my own car. Next time I have the valve cover off I will take a bunch of pictures and show everyone how much play are in the rockers when the cam lobe is pointing away from the lifter.
