Just curious if you put anything between the bolt head and the hotside and then between the nut and the mani. Like a lockwasher or a washer or anything like that. Usualy you put a flatwasher under the bolt head and a lockwasher under the nut when bolting metal pieces together.

There are no studs for Buschur to back out. I bought a new 10.5 with no studs. I am getting new studs from the dealer to use between the O2 housing and 10.5 and then plan to switch to bolts only between the 10.5 and manifold as I plan to remove the manifold over the winter for an EGT probe and more Bushcur goodness.

OK. Perhaps some more help if anyone can assist. I see there are two different numbers for connectors between the O2 housing and the turbine housing. By connectors I mean studs and bolts. I thought you were only to use one type of stud at this connection. The numbers I got from the "All part number requests go here" thread are:

MR224441 (turbine-O2 bolt)
MD062691 (turbine-O2 stud)

I just want to make sure I have EVERYTHING I need to do this job in one afternoon. I plan to switch the two studs from the 10.5 to the exhaust manifold to bolts and nuts, but other than that I want to use OEM parts. Can anyone clear this up for me? Also wouldnt mind the numbers for the OEM washers and nuts that are used on the housing with the studs as well as the nuts and washers for the stock exhaust manifold studs. Can't find them. Thanks.

I think that my car came with the 10.5 hotside already installed (I bought it used), but I am unsure. Is there a way to tell visually between the 9.8 and 10.5 turbine housings?

Here are pictures of my two hotsides. The 10.5 is on the left. 9.8 stocker on the right. You can see the p/n's on the flange.
You can click on the pic for the full-size version.

OK, I am going to ask here again. I want to have EVERYTHING I need ahead of time when I go to do this next week.

I am swithing the two hotside/manifold studs to bolts and want to know the size I need. I know a lot of people have switched these and probably have the bolt size somewhere. Can someone gimme the info so I dont have to run to the store with studs in hand halfway through the project??? Thanks!

Get the OEM bolts. Don't bother trying to get some bolts from your local hardware store. The stock bolts are special bolts that can take the heat of the turbo. The hardware store stuff will gall up and most likely lock itself onto the turbine housing.

i recomend ordering the oem nuts and bolts, that'll ensure you won't have to run to the hardware store because of wrong sizes. go to the 1st page if you need the part#s.

buy the 2 manifold/turbine bolts, get 1 or 2 extra washers (in case you lose one), extra bolt(s) and the 2 studs for the O2/turbine. I tried to re-use those bolts off my old turbo with only 2000miles and studs and ending up snapping 1 of the bolts and cross threaded the studs trying to back it out.

Well I got extra nuts, washers, and the studs for the O2 to turbine, but nothing from the turbine to manifold. I guess since the stock way to bolt this section up is two bolts and two studs I can just order 4 bolts and do away with the studs. Maybe I'll do that.

+1 I always do this on all my DSM's, made life MUCH easier. Those two front studs make taking that manifold off a *****. Although its really not that much work just taking the manifold+turbo+o2 housing as one assembly. If you ask me, this how to is a really unsafe way to do the hotside swap. If you want to minimize risk of damage to the turbine blades, you want to remove the entire turbo (and replace the oil drain tube gaskets while your at it) and slide the turbine housing off VERTICALLY not horizontally.

Has anyone ever done an up pipe install on a WRX and the 10.5 install? If so, how would you compare the relative difficulty between the two installs? Thanks
