Get an e-cutout instead of a full tbe. That will save you some $$$

and I need to do it on a budget also.

I may have to look at the "Parts for sale section" and see what used parts I can buy at a discount.
Find some slightly used HKS cams. Buy a walbro 255. Find a used turbo-back w/ test pipe. Go to one of Al's (dynoflash) custom tuning days and get your ECU reflashed for those mod (~$350) = 330+ whp (since you would have an '05, figure 345+). WHP numbers based on typical dynojet output.

I just sold my srt and it made 300whp. Had every bolt on you could imagine. It ran 12.5@109. 1.75 60ft Not to shabby.
I just traded it for an 05 evo and since then added 3 inch turbo back buschar exhaust, hks drop in filter and safc. Ran it saturday night and ran 12.4@112, 1.81 60ft. Total of 1000 invested and already tears my srt down. Granted my srt would probably still hang with this car on the fly because on the track the srt was on slicks and that kills the trap. Hope this helps

what else do I need to beat a 300 WHP SRT4 in a highway race?
MoTec M800PRO. nothing else will be needed & it can be easily adjusted when you decide to add mods.

yes it does and i see you spent $1000.....

I'll throw in $2000 right away into power mods...thats the budget im working with... i just wanna make sure I can beat a 300 Whp srt4 in a highway race by at least a buslength....maybe more...

my buddy suggested getting the AMS 3" TBE, and some GSC 280 cams....and then a flash or something...

From the SRT4 I will be transferring over the HKS EVC 5, and will be using the HKS Type 1 TT.

I don't think the TT is important here.

For $2000, wow, you can go pretty fast. Does your buddy know what he's talking about...I'm not sure you want 280 cams, but maybe. With this money, you can get TBE (w/test pipe), panel filter, flash, Lower IC pipe, JDM MR BOV, and have money left over. Maybe you can throw in some 272/272 cams to put you over the top, but only if you do the work yourself. You already have the boost control, so at most, you may need to add on a boost gauge (if no factory cluster or if you don't think it's good) and a fuel pump (in case you crank up the boost, but not 100% necessary without the cams).

Ah, a man after my own heart with these mods. That 112mph was with race gas, though, right? Sure beats an HKS RS intake + HKS SSQV BOV...

I dunno, about the cams, but whatever works best on the stock 05 turbo.... I think Id be happy running mid to low 11's with the 05 EVO. I'd like to do it with the stock turbo also. But whatever the case, I'm gonna need to find the simplest, cheapest, and safest way to get there...

as far as doing the work myself my buddies and I are mecanically inclined, I'm sure we can do a lot of the bolt-ons ourselves and save a lot of $$$

one thing I do know is that sooner or later I'll need a clutch....

You THINK you'd be happy with mid-to-low 11s? On the stock turbo? What got you these expectations? It is possible, but we were talking about $2k in mods at first, but now you're talking about low 11s? The fastest stock turbo is 10.9, and that's only at 124mph. Most people would run 11.3-11.4 at that mph, but Curt is a madman behind the wheel. He has pretty much maxed everything out, so he's moving on to a bigger turbo. Maybe you meant to say you'd be happy with mid-to-low 12s? Low 12s would mean around 114mph, which you can do easily on the stock turbo with cams, but once you get past this point, it starts getting expensive.

The 280s do work on this car and do make great power, but I didn't realize you were looking for 400+ whp. I thought you were just trying to beat your Neon...

the low 11 thing is my long term goal he he.... the short term goal (within 1-2 months) is to be faster than my neon....

You don't need nearly what I have to beat a 300HP neon, but this was funny so I though I'd share. Last week I turned onto the highway with a black SRT4 and he just sat behind me (it's a 4-lane highway). Just to be an a$$ I stayed at 20 until he came up next to me and rev'd. I looked over and he punched it, definately had some exhaust work done but not sure what else. I let him get a car length up and then did a second gear pull up to the speed limit ( I repeat...UP TO THE SPEED LIMIT, speeding is baaaaad).

Needless to say, the 20-65 pull left him about 6 cars back. I saw the same guy 3 days ago as we both pulled onto the highway again (after work). He came up next to me and gave me a thumbs up, then dropped behind me again. At least there's no hard feelings!

Ok, well you can go low 11's, but I wouldn't count on it being a reliable daily driver, nor would I count on using the stock turbo. Both are possible, but probably not worth the hassle unless you don't need your Evo on a daily basis.
