I think I figured it out. There are two e-bay intercoolers that look like the AMS cooler. They are both being labeled XSPOWER. The one with 17 cooling rows (2 more than AMS) is in the first set of pics. The second style has 15 rows just like the AMS. The style with 15 rows looks to be superior. The cooling fins of the 17 row is the one to stay away from. The turbulators are not very dense and the rows look restricting.

i still have this intercooler on my car and there's nothing wrong with it. an intercooler is a non moving part, there's no wear or tear over time.

more power to ya. people have to understand that not everyone who owns an evo also own speed shop and can afford all top notch performance parts. some people are willing to give up a tiny bit of performance and pay a fraction of the cost.

i have the 17 row core and my internal fins looks like this one. they might have use the other core on one of there batch but i think the majority of the AMS look alike IC has this core.

Whats wrong with Taiwan made parts? The USA doesn't always make the best parts. An Evo is a good example of foreign quality. If the US cannot produce parts for cheap via slave labor, more power to the Chinese.

This is actually a myth. Even if some fins became loose, I seriously doubt any engine damage would result. Those fins are like paper, all it would do is get crunched by the piston and get spit out into the exhaust and maybe hit the turbine fan on the way out (not sure if the fan would be damaged if it were at full-spooling speeds). I've seen the tips of spark plugs that were ingested by engines without any type of damage what so ever (on a turbo car too). Anyways, I seriously doubt any fins would come loose to begin with.

Well of course, except for debris and large bugs denting the exterior frontal fins.

the thing I find the funniest is that DynoFlash Al was the biggest anti EBAY intercooler advocate out there. I remember reading several posts of his stating all his parts are either made in the USA or straight from "JAPAN" and how he would never even think about supporting the CHinese economy, or the 8yr old girls doing the welding, by purchasing an IC from XSPower. I think that was when he was really swinging from D.B.'s nuts though so that could explain it a little bit.

Now here he is talking about the value and performance of the same IC which he has on one of his cars. Man if that isn't hypocritical I don't know what is. I guess that just goes along with being a laywer huh... ROFL.

If I had the time or desire I would search for that post...

i'm not trying to defend Al in anyway but people do learn and change their opinion overtime. it's just that some people are too quick to pass judgment or come to a conclusion.
