Very interesting.. I for one have run solid cams and solid roller cams for years on my older V8 cars.. But I got tired of adjusting valve lash..

If you have the patience for maintainance, there's quite a bit to be gained by having a solid valvetrain, but it does require maintainance (checking and adjusting lash at every tune-up) which is really no big deal for most of us. Not sure if the Evo setup would require checking and adjusting on a regular basis..

I ran solid lifters to on my old Chevelle also. Better response but more maintenance. It said that the "tic-tic-tic" noise were from the hydraulic lifters getting dirty which causes the noise, but they didn't take it step further and say that wear is also the causeof the noise which you will have after a while with solid lifters. On a stock head I see no really benefit but more maintenance but on a modified head, you will feel a big difference.

I believe CRCO tried to develop solid lifters for DSMs a few years back. I'm not sure what happened, but I heard they were unsuccessful.

2V engines with large, heavy valves and big cams benefit greatly from solid lifters. The EVO engine may benefit from solid lifters, but I seriously doubt to the same degree.

The gentle ramps of HKS cams don't even necessitate stiffer valve springs, so I'd be doubtful that solid lifters are going to be of significant benefit. Additionally, EVOs with large turbos don't seem to lose power up top due to valve float, so is there really much to be gained?

If the engine had high lift cams with aggressive ramps, and was expected to turn 9000-10,000 rpm and make peak power in that range, I'd say it's a viable option. Otherwise, I'm doubtful that it's worthwhile for most street cars with smaller turbos and realistic 8k rpm limits, especially considering the expected increased maintenance.

I might also add that solid lifters tend to be noisier, and can create false positive signals from the knock sensor.
