Your are balancing three things by adjusting the pedal.
1. Proper disengagment. The engagement point has to be high enough for shifting without putting too much load on the syncros. The test on the EVO seems to be while shifting at 8000 rpm. For some reason, high rpms shifts require a higher engagement point.
2. Free play. Any amount of free play in the rod to the master cylinder's piston is adequate. If you adjust too far and it eliminates free play, the hydraulics malfunction by not allowing for self-adjustment (fluid flow to the reservoir).
3. Preference. Too low or high of engagement point may feel ackward especially at first.
You DA MAN! As I have always said! Thanks for the input.

just did this today. Was hard at first then i just repositioned myself. Easy! 5'8" 200lbs.

I moved the driver seat all the way back.
Layed face up with my legs and butt dangling out of the car.
Put my right elbow as close to my upper torso as possible.
Then went to town on it with right hand.
all i need was a 12mm wrench. I was able to turn the rod by hand.

Another tip. If there's too much resistance when attempting to turn the rod by hand, you can just press the clutch pedal slightly to "unload" it. Then it'll turn easily.
