Clutch pedal effort
Clutch pedal effort
Hey guys, got a question here about adjusting or judging clutch pedal effort.
I recently bought my own Evo IX RS, and a good friend of mine bought an EVO IX MR about a month ago. I recently drove the MR and I noticed that the clutch pedal is extremely heavy, it's heavy to push in and it pushes back hard, making it a little difficult to modulate the clutch smoothly. It's nothing like the clutch in my RS, which is really light.
Now both cars appear to be stock, although her car has obvious holes in the steering column and a-pillar from gauge pods, so I'm assuming it's been returned to stock. It's possible it could be an aftermarket clutch.
So the question here is, is there an easy way to tell if it's an aftermarket clutch, and is there any way to adjust the pedal effort?

You will have to take out the inspection hole plug and take a look at the pressure plate with a flashlight. There is no way to tell just by looking at the top of the engine bay.

Yup there's an easy way.
Jack up the driver side of the car. Underneath the car take off the black plastic shielding (yes the shielding with the annoying poppet fasteners).
There is a rubber grommet that allows you to look inside the transmission where the clutch is. Remove the rubber grommet and get a flash light and look inside the hole to see what kind of clutch is in there.
You can also adjust the clutch pedal to see if it helps with the pedal pressure. Follow this guide: http://evomoto.com/tech_info.php?tec...eb5fe338b61abe
Def sounds like an aftermarket clutch is installed, just a matter of figuring out which clutch.

Thanks Bink, I do plan on adjusting both mine and her clutch pedals, mine is too abrupt and 70% of the pedal travel is dead, no clutch takeup at all until I'm almost all the way off of it, and hers seems to grab as soon as it leaves the floor, so it could be that the rod was just shortened way too much on her MR.
I'll get under it and pop that inspection grommet out, thank for the tip guys!

Got my car last month but my clutch feels heavy as hell. Just like my SRT-4. That had an aftermarket clutch on it. My calf was actually sore the day after I got my car...and I work out a decent amount, lol. I like the somewhat heavy feel though. My Sunfire felt as if it was 2 tons compared to a new Altama I was thinking of getting last year. Light feel = weak to me...passed on it.
Right now my pedal feel is at about 85% to the top. Thats where I can drive and shioft at regardless. I like my clutch releaseing around 50-60% of the travel.
I am starting not to like how i can barely touch it to move or engage in a gear, I want to actualy put some more press .
Which way will does the rod have to turn so i can achieve what i want?
