Due to the lovely weather (think snow than rain than sleet than snow again) Mother Nature sent to he Bucks County, PA area, I went out today to pick-up some soda from the local KMart, being that they were open today, and decided to have a little fun in an empty parking lot. I did a nice sweeping, but tight donut
All good right
, wrong. I went to do another when I noticed
UH I have no power steering.
I got out and checked the belt immediately, then the fluid and then for leaks and anything hanging down that may have broke
, nothing
The fluid level was a little level, but I have a '03 and actually never checked the level, even after 2 years of autocrossing and track days (I know
) I put some fluid and nothing. I even let it sit thinking air may have snuck in the system, nothing.
I checked it again after good 'ol Thanksgiving dinner and still no power steering. I put it up on the lift and still found nothing out of the ordinary
I checked to make sure the pump was pumping fluid and it was, although the pressure may have been down slightly, but I am not 100% sure. I drained the system, added new fluids and then bleed the system. Still a no go.
I am buying a new pump tomorrow and hoping that solves the problem as all signs lead in that direction.
Anyone else run into a similar problem?

Did the dealer give you crap for having mods done to your car? Thats the only thing I am hesitant about, also I'd rather do the work myself, but if they will cover it under warranty.....
Calling tomorrow
When I rev it while trying to move the steering wheel at a complete stop it becomes easier, however, once I let the engine idle it is real hard to turn the wheel, leaving me to believe the pump took a dump

evo8dad,
I am in Delaware County, I go to Fred Beans in Doylestown for my service. They seem pretty mod friendly (just my impression, no direct experience), you may want to try them for the power steering pump, if you havent been there yet.
Good Luck!

Will post the outcome later.
that same thing happened to me last year. i went into a dealership that i didnt even buy the car at and they put on a new pump under warrenty even with my mods on there.
no problems. took a whole day to do that though.
evo8dad,
Sorry, OT, but....
I read in another thread that you have a small shop in Bucks County. Can you give me more info? Looing for other options for service other than Beans.

The other good thing is that since I am a one man show and am not relying on this to pay the bills, my service fees are well below a OEM dealer or a performance shop. I also take my time and scrutinize everything to make sure the install or maintenance is done right the first time.
By the way, I had no problems with my local dealer regarding the power steering pump. It didn't hurt that I used to work there and I know some of the techs and my brother-in-law no works there, but the service manager stated that it was obvious that my modifications had no affect on the failure.
I would have done the work myself, but the power steering pump alone costs over $400
Excellent info evo8dad!
Glad everything workrd out with the power steering pump. I am guessing that you recommend Beans for warranty work then? I have had good experience there so far, but I have not needed any work other than routine maintenance. Any particular tech you recommend for the Evo?
How can I contact you for non-warranty work ;>) ? Where is your shop located? I am in Havertown.
Thanks

You can either give me a call anytime at 215-450-1251 or email me at afuhs@comcast.net. My shop is located in Sellersville, PA (Bucks County), 45 minutes north of you. My father lives in Havertown and on a god day I can get to his house in 30 minutes.
Give me a call anytime if you need any work done or just have a question. And yes I recommend Beans for warranty work. The Techs name I forget, but he is the only one there that completed the Evolution service school through Mitsu
