Found the problem w/ my car, really bad
Found the problem w/ my car, really bad
Umm so after changing the BOV 3 times, checking all the vacumm hoses etc etc
plugs, pipes check etc etc etc.... taking the utec out etc etc etc
i think i found my culprit... it seems my crank pully wobbles under idle (or a lack therof flucation galore)
And my shop told me that the scanner reads a crank sensor fault....
How expensive does everyone think this would be... i have no cams or nothing that would cause this problem.
Everyone think dealer will cover this?
If not what about insurance under comp...

that is pretty odd that your pulley is wobbling. on such a new car i wouldn't think the rubber part of it rotted out. i have only seen one pulley do this but it was on a 1g dsm. i would try to get the dealer to cover it if at all possible unless you can pull the sensor yourself. you will need to get behind the timing belt at the crank to even get to the sensor. is it possible it is unplugged behind the valve cover? usually those won't get ruined unless the trigger plate hits it and if it does that you would hear it hitting it when rotating the engine.
did this just happen all of the sudden? are the 4 12mm bolts that hold that pulley to the crank sprocket tight?
good luck and keep us updated.

Yay, more people advising other people to ruin valid warranty claims.
You pay to play kids...
(To the original poster, I see your sig, but I also see you "taking the utec out"...)
Sorry to be a kill joy, but it's the honest thing to do.

You seem to have crank walk. This is where the crank shaft has too much play axially, it moves back and forth in the block. This was a rare occurence in early DSM's, but became a huge issue in the 2G DSM's. I have heard of one other case here on Evom of it happeing in an EVO. If you have an aftermarket clutch Mitsubishi will blame it for the problem and not cover the repair under warrenty.
