Help me keep my car! Motor Help needed

Ok well my car has been acting up, so I towed it 250 miles to Buschur Racing. Well 3 day's later I get the bad new's "SPUN MAIN BEARING". Well I figured I was in for a alot of money but I never reliezed how much. Then Dan said he could repair it for $6,000 whitch would include Buschur rod's and piston's. I almost cried , I asked If it could be done cheaper, and he said he may be able to just use oem part's, but it would still cost $5,000. When I asked what was wrong with the car, he said the main bearing in cylinder one had spun. He did not dig deep enough to find any other issue's. Long story short, I don't have 5-$6000 to get my car running again, I am married and have a child on the way. How big of a job would rebuilding the block be? How cheap could it be done for? I have a Friend who said he would help me rebuild it, he has done it before on other 4g63's.
I am just wondering what you all would do In my position. I love may car, But I don't have 5-6k to spend on a rebuild.

**This thread should in no way be used to bad mouth Buschur Racing, I have had very good experiance's with them, and I have nothing but praise for them.

hi there.

sorry to hear of your bad luck.....

if i were in your shoes (and predicament) i'd start looking for a used shortblock.... maybe someone that has decided to go for a stroker kit, etc.

i'd hope that you could find a used short block for around $1500 or less?

put your head on top of it and you should be good to go!

good luck.

Find someone with an engine hoist and pull and install it yourself. Really not that bad. Just have to bite the bullet and bust some *** after work. The parts themselves shouldnt be that bad depending on what got damaged.

You can get a brand new short block for about $1900 here with a core;

With Labor you should be able to get in for less than $4k unless your turbo got fried by main bearing pieces.

I have already purchased another turbo.. I was hoping to repair the existing block, I did a compression test before bringinging to Buschur and it was even through all 4 cylinders. I am assuming I caught it before to much damage happend. Has anyone on this board replaced main bearings? If so, any pointer's would be great.

Also if anyone has a complete block, they would like to sell... let me know

Lancershop.com has a brand new OEM black for $2600. After tax's, shipping, it would probably be around $3k. Then you gotta find someone to install your new motor.

I guess it would still leave you around 4K. Tax season is coming up, maybe you can come up w/ 4K.

I haven't done any research on motors, but when i needed to replace my motor on my honda, i just bought a JDM motor, which was cheaper than buying one from the states.

I'm sure you can find a JDM 4G63 motor. Good luck.

buy a used engine out of a wrecked car. don't do any upgrades. period. if you can't afford a rebuilt motor this is the cheapest, best way to go. depending on the state of the wrecked car's motor you may be able to sell some parts off of it or your motor.
why did you buy a turbo?

i bought a used bottom block for $1061 shipped. it came with the crank, pistons and oil pump.i would get a complete bottom end, cuz there maybe a chance where you can't rebuild the block. a spun main bearing scored the crank, but it also might have scored the block.

his mods in no way would cause a spun bearing.. either he likes to over rev, overheated it, or most likely the junk pumps that are in our car prob started to give.. losing pressure.. im sorry but that price is way to high... buy a new crank, crank and rod bearings, oil pump, find a good mechanic, leave the motor in, and replace the stuff.. now if there is things like scorched walls, or oil starvation elsewhere then you have to rebuild the whole motor... again a good shop could find this out, and do it cheaper.. otherwise, you can buy a shortblock, change the oil pump, and get it installed.. for around 2700-3000.. thats what i would charge you.. for a shortblock change..
