I am taking it back to the mechanic this weekend to see if I can get this resolved one and for all. I am wondering what keeps causing this. It runs well for a few hours and then then next second its stalls out and will not run at all, not even idle without keeping your foot on the gas. Shut it down for a little while and it starts back up and runs fine again like nothing happened. I am noticing that the tapping sound is back and getting louder as well.

I had a similar stalling issue at idle. I took it to the dealership and they cleaned off the throtle body plate and it fixed it. It was covered with carbon they also ran some fuel system cleaner and it was all better. Good Luck

Thanks, I will try that see what happens. The tapping sound it louder now, before it was just loud when you pushed in the clutch, no it all the time.

Mine hasn't been stalling, but the idle sounds like it's close to stalling. I have Works P2 flash, 269 cams and TBE. Car ran fan. Then I did the O2 sensor fix (spark plug anti-foul) and reset the ECU. Since then it's been idling rough sometimes and almost dies. Confused???

This topic is more interesting than others. Looks like this is a fairly prevalent issue in some EVOs. I would like to see a list of people who have these issues along with a description of the modifications to their car. Also, if they had this problem and were able to correct it, what was the diagnosis and the cure?
Maybe I should start anothe thread with a poll.....

Its now confirmed, the crank is moving. It does not look like its caused extensive damage yet! The mechanic just confirmed that there is some bearing damage, but hopefully it hasnt damaged the rods and pistons and crank. It this the dreaded crankwalk?

Yup very similar, I didnt even take it to the stealership as I know they would not warantee it, as they did not when it spun a rod bearing. My high flow exhaust caused that according to them. They may has well of said that global warming caused it as that may have been more believable. Maybe I sould have got mythbusters to check it out lol.

I am not sure what to do now. All I can do is just wait and see whats what.

Sorry to hear that.

BTW, my problem (which obviously has nothing to do with yours) went away after I pulled the silencer out of my exhaust. I guess it didn't like that.

my evo is also stalling when coming to a stop or on an incline. it really sucks because i'll be taking a turn and it'll shut off and no power steering. eeek!

i have asked friends, most think its fuel related. one thought since it would happen on incline or stoping that, thats when the fuel moves to one side of the tank, might be fuel pump, or cloged line or filter. and another friend suggested maybe higher flowing injectors. i have tried resetting the ecu since the idle seemed low (about 900rpms) does that sound low? but it didnt do anything still stalled.

im going to try cleaning off the throtle body and seeing if that works. if not,

oh and mods that i am aware of are simply a k&n intake, and a samco recirculated bov hose. idk of anyothers just got the car 2 days ago.
