Transmission failiure
Glad to hear your enjoying you car too Spyder..
Ohh, go get your alignment checked and make sure they show you the numbers mine was WAY off. I had -1.6 camber left front and +0.4 right front. That is not a misprint, +.4 on the right front. I went to a local tuner for the first alignment and when we saw how far off it was I called mitsubishi right away and made them fix it under warranty. I now have -1.5 both sides and it doesn't want to drift as much everytime I turn left anymore
I just want to try the redline shockproof and see if it helps any. If the nosie is comming from where they say it is it should make a noticeable difference and lower the tranny fluid temps by around 25-50 deg f, accordign to redline anyway.
I decided to use my regional reps failure to respond to email to my advantage. I emailed him and told him I was going to try the redline shock proof unless he felt there would be a problem with that and even gave him a link to the specs. It meets or exceeds the manufature specs and he has yet to respond so I have a paper trail.
It realy only bothers me when deceling in traffic cause other can hear the noise from outside the car and it just makes my baby look bad.
But yeah my mind is more at ease and I'm driving it the way it was intended. Can't wait for my first round of mods and they were all aproved by my rep (drop in, catback, forge recerc bov).
Evo On !

Hey mad, did the rep approve these mods only if installed by the dealer? probably right? I was under the impression that they wouldn't be approving ANYTHING. How do you go about getting a dealership to approve mods? I'm glad that you've started to drive your car the way you intended to when you bought it!!

VIII trans failure resolution...new car
Due to the length of the other post that is approaching 24 pages I will start a new post. (I believe in people easily being able to get good info)
I am writing on behalf of my buddy, 'turbo 2.0' the actual owner. (He is to lazy to post) He purchased his car w/ the 1st batch here in Houston.
To make a long story short, Mitsubishi ended up letting him choose a new car! After rebuilding the entire tranny twice & putting a brand new transfer case & gearbox in - it STILL made the same noises. All of this w/ only 2,900 miles on it! Let me add that he wasnt racing it or abusing it by dumping the clutch or impressing the local 2FST2FRIOUS crowd by doing donuts in the parking lot. It wasnt a decel noice, that is being considered 'normal' now. Even the new black car does it. It was grinding going into 5th, 2nd time around it wailed all the time. MItsu called hime after the 2nd time it was in the shop & offered him (2)comped payments on the car!!!!! After the 3rd try at getting the car 'right' w/the dlr installing new driveline parts they called him up and said "dude, just come up here and get another car! (scared of tagging it w/LEMON LAW??) They have Mitsu QC zone people flying in to check it out I was told???
I talked him into a black one from the silver he originally had after we found out that the paint chips 'black' underneath. He(owner) says the black car drives way nicer than the silver one ever did & he is happy - for now? He is scared that the car is going to do the same thing again & is postponing the install of the exhaust, guages, timers etc;
It must be a rampant problem since other people are going through the same thing right now. I was considering selling my ///AMG Mercedes to get into one of these cars, but I am now having second thoughts. My dad always told me that Mitsus have always had sucky transmissions & now my doubts of his opinions are reversing!
To give good advice to all EVO VIII owners I suggest calling Mitsubishi North America customer care #888-MITSU2002 to complain and document the situation!!!! Just be cool & dont demand or yell to much. You only get what you want by delegating & being nice about it. That is IMHO the only way his problem got solved efficiently. This car is a maketing gamble that mitsu is using to boost(no pun intended) image & they dont want anybody bad-mouthing them. Also in Japan Mitsu is being threatened by the transport ministry to pull their automakers license b/c of past customer complaint issue cover ups! They should help you guys w/ getting a new car. They can afford it! Our local dealers have un-sold cars that have been on the lot for 2-4 months. There are plenty to go around!

From what I have read there are only a few problems with the trans. I don't believe there is a rampant problem with the car. All makes have issues, no car MFG is perfect.
After a year if a large number of trans are failing than that is an issue.

The car is generally noisier than most others but that's to be expected.....
I think thier was a few cars with issues, but me and my friends cars have been fine. (cross-fingers knock on wood). I have about 5600 miles on my car and everything seems to be fine, Sometimes i feel like i have a noise, but its mostly paranoia,
