problems in the ix..

ok so i have an 06 evo ix with 5000 miles. yesterday i decided to pull my plugs and do a compression test. I pulled all 4 plugs and found that 3 of them were cracked at the porcelin(spell check). now this could have happend somehow in the engine or from the spark plug socket i used, btw these are the plugs that came with the car, never changed. so i couldnt get ahold of any plugs last night so i left it at the shop i was at. Today i went to the shop with a new set of plugs(the same ones mitsubishi uses for the ix). i put the plugs in and fired it up, it started fine but then quickly dropped to low rpms and was misfiring, we heard a click from the engine a few times and shut it off right away. after talking about what it could have been we started it back up and let it run, the clicking was gone but the car was misfiring and almost stalling for a while, and then it got to a good idle and seemed to be running fine. we started reving it up a little and it started misfirng again and then stalled and through a code for misfire i think po300. took the plugs out to find they were all cracked, i did the compression test and it went 140,140,145,146(car wasnt fully warmed up and i didnt touch the throttle). now before i even touched the plugs yesterday the car was running perfect. now with the new set of plugs it went down hill. i will be going with another set of plugs tomorow and try it again. any suggestions, mods are in my sig if that effects anything. please help!

Try using a different spark plug socket and be gentle.

Good luck.

one more thing to mention...the plug was not gapped...just taken out of the box and put into the car, if that helps.

is it possible for the engine to somehow break all 4 plugs or is it most likely the tool

I don't think your engine broke your plugs, and furthermore I'm jealous of your IX.

Why are you messing with a car that has 5000miles. I would just take it to the Stealership.

these were the same plugs as the stock ones....matched up and everything....the tool used was a basic spark plug deep socket with a rubber piece inside...

there is a slight possibility that a piece of porcelin fell into the cylinder when i first took out the broken plug, i highly doubt it, but this would explain the noise we heard when it started up. could have been the piece moving in the cylinder and it stopped becuase it was released through an exhaust valve
