The worste surging turbo I have ever seen in my entire life BTW is a factory built TME, so surging isn't just a product of our 20G.
Umm are you sure that it isnt related to any ancillary mods? Because Ive had and been around a lot of TMEs and a few 3071s and noticed zero surge in the configurations they were in. I did a search and found very little in terms of mentioning surge except wastegate mods and BOVs.

I know if your partial throttle is tuned incorrectly it can feel like surge. when i was tuning my WR with AEM, my partial throttle wasnt set correct it would buck during partial throttle. once i tuned the partial throttle that way it was supposed to be the bucking was gone.

no surge from my WR with the stock ecu or the AEM.

wow this is tuning into a pissing fight. i have the 20g-9-5 and i must say is a very good hard hitting turbo. no suging what-so-ever. i can part throttle and boost anything i want and no surging. i also have the high boost actuator and the older forge diverter valve. i have noticed power gains throughout the entire powerband, going up steep hills on my way home from work is done with less power because this turbo is pushing that much more air. to me its a wothy upgrade for those who do not plan on draging their cars and want a nice smooth turbo with little lag thats very streetable. and the sound it makes while the boost climbs is just fantastic.

I am currently running the FP-WR-8 with upgraded actuator.I am going to swap with 20g-9-5 blade and test on same dyno to see the difference.ty.

The TME's and stock turbos surge. As a matter of fact there is quite a bit of reporting of the stock turbo on the EVO9's surging too. If the turbo makes boost faster than the engine is taking it the turbo is going to surge. Ask Robert Fuller about what a light switch my RS was to drive at the C&D event. Hell read the notes on our website about what the editors say.

IF you tune the part throttle portions of the map I'd say that the chances of surging are even higher. When tuning for MBT and spending anytime doing it the turbo is going to wick up even faster than normal.

The reason I am swapping out the 6 bladed wheels for the 5 bladed are because of some data I collected last weekend when doing some testing. The 6 bladed Mitsubishi wheel had more heat build up than the 5 bladed wheel does. The 5 bladed wheel on the same day, same car gained 0 degrees in full 3rd gear pulls. The 6 bladed wheel was gaining 4-5 minimum and as much as 8 degrees on some. I'd rather see my customers get the new more efficient wheel and make all the 20g-9's the same.

I am doing this for free. Please call before you pull your turbo as right now there are no wheels. We are waiting for them to be machined.

Any thoughts on how this might effect my custom tune? I'm assuming it shouldn't be too much different as they flow pretty much the same.

I think my past tune (feb 4th) was even more conservative as Al thought my engine may have been tired. Compression check came out 170psi in all 4. Maybe the blowback we were seeing was the fact that the engine was soaked.. my breather filter was probably soaked with water too.

I'm hoping I can schedule a day next to do a couple dyno pulls to see if I'm making more power on pump gas. If that goes well I'll get an Alky and be set Then I'll really be kickin some *** this spring/summer at the local track

Yeah.. don't be a dumbass and pull the turbo off and box it up.

The turbo swap shouldn't effect the tune much, if anything you will be safer.

Yes, Mitsu, we should have some turbo orders filled by the end of this coming week. Wheels are in and turbos were being built on Friday.

Damn.. should I go ahead and ship my turbo to FP? I was in the process of putting it back on right now lol. It would be my luck that I'd get everything put back together and the wheels would come in
