Oil filter - is it same as '99 Eclipse???

Want to get my first oil change - the local idiot zone auto parts knows nothing about the Evo VIII and dont want to take time off from work to drive to the dealer

Wondering if the oil filter is the same as the '99 eclipse turbo ??

The genuine filters have a valve that prevents oil from returning to the sump after you shut off the engine. I recommend you use those (some folk use Fram filters too, but I don't have any experience with them). As far as I remember the eclipse filters are not the short 'fat' ones that the evo uses, but instead they are the "tall narrow" ones,

eg. ::

I am not sure how that affects their operation.
its best to get the parts from your local dealer or have them do the service. Be careful of some of these lube shops.

DO NOT USE FRAM! BAD BAD BAD OVERPRICED OIL FILTER! Most of the things in a Fram oil filter that have to be metallic are actually cardboard! Make the extra trip to you dealer. Stick with the genuine Mitsubishi oil filter specifically designated for your Evo.
