Is something wrong with my tranny?

For some reason when rolling in first gear at like 1500rpms I hear a notching noise as the wheels turn, now the car runs fine when on WOT throughout the gears the sound is also coming from the front of the vehicle.

You would have to be more descriptive. I know that these cars emit alot of drivetrain noise (because of the awd) and the gears to whine a little when going slow. Maybe that is what your hearing.

Well I know the gears wind say I start and get first gear up to 5k slowly and decel off that and let it go under 1500rpms theres a notching knocking noise coming from the front underneath from what it sounds/feels like.

I duno It could be the cold weather and salty roads, I'm gonna wash it underneath.

Trust me, washing is not going to fix a drivetrain issue. Doesn't sound like you have a problem anyways. ARGH I can't stand when non-mechanic people buy these cars. Learn to fix your own car! =)

I'm not a mechanic, I'm a electrical engineer. I know most EVO owners don't know anything about cars, but it just seems wrong to me that you can own such an awesome piece of machinery and know aboslutely NOTHING about how any of it works. Anyways back to the initial problem, maybe u could provide a sound clip of some sorts, but it sounds to me like its just typical 1st gear drivetrain noise.

I may have the same thing. It only appears at low RPM's, usually starting from a dead stop. Its almost like a grinding sound and I can feel the vibrations through the pedal.
