Question Why buy a 1.2mm Head Gasket + Head Stud Kit?

Did anybody have any problems with the head stud and the head gasket when
increasing the boost pressure + adding HKS 264 intake and exaust cams as well
as APR full turbo back exaust and K&N filter, plus Exedy hyper twin clutch?

I will do those mods in my car and the aftermarket shop tried selling those
to me.

Any comments?

how high are you planning on going with the boost? Stock turbo I assume right?

I think that if you plan on remaining below 23psi you will not need either the studs or the head gasket. The main purpose of the studs is to prevent the head from lifting at high boost. Just adding the cams alone will not require those mods.
Good insurance...yes....needed.....not yet.

Personally I wouldnt push the stock turbo harder than 21psi anyways and you can avoid having to worry about blowing your head gasket among other items.

Thanks for the info althemean, so no need for head gasket and stud kit
right now.

Yes, I do not plan to change the stock turbo. The boost increase
I am not sure, I will probably reflash the ECU since there are no good
machanics here in brasil to help me out with an engine management
system.

I was planning on putting the AEM system later on, but because there
are so many complications that can happen and no qualified mechanics
for the EVO in Brasil, I am not sure if I will try it.

Do you know any good chips or EMS that are easy to use? Should I
use any of those with the stock turbo?

flash will work well for you, UTEC would be another choice thats easy to hook up and tune your self once you get a hang of it

If you use a 1.2mm oversized gasket, that should put you to 8.5:1 compression, which is safer to build boost on for sure.

I would get the ARP head studs. I lifted my head boosting 23psi on my car.just get them installed when you do the cams. (cheap insurance)

Spot on.

But the head spouse to lift even on stock boost. it was designed to lift.

Does anyone know any shop that might have it for imediate delivery? I did not buy the 1.2mm Head Gasket and Head Stud Kit because I would have to wait another one month for the parts to arrive in Brasil, since the shop did not have any on stock. Any shop owners out there? That ship to Brasil? Thanks.

are you pulling the heads off the car to do the cam/spring install?

If you are already going to be in there I could see upgrading the parts. You can do a cam/spring install without removing the head though.

Cool. The one problem is to get the parts to Brazil. Customs charges 130% over the price of the parts, plus 130% over the shipment cost. So I am sending the cams through a budy of mine in Miami who comes to Brasil once a month. Anyway, I think I will buy them just for cheap insurance.
