Dam sorry about that.

Was it mechanical failure? Tuning error?

How much boost were you running?

Let me know if the questions are a bother. Just really interested in this set up.

We dont run in our race motors, nor the ones in some high profile cars.

Did you have any issues with getting your evo tranny to bolt up to the block? I just got a SBR 2.1l block and the shop said that the tranny does not mate up to the block...does anyone have any more information on this??

Check with SBR as it should bolt right up. Confirm you have the newer 4g64 block etc, not a dsm 4g64, or a 4g63 block. Only the 4g64 out of the 3g eclipse and same year galants will work!

This is correct, there are two different versions of the 4G64. One with the timing belt on the left side (passenger), and one with the timing belt on right side (passenger). The evo has the timing belt on the passenger side, and you will only find them in the 3g eclipses, galants, HYUNDAI's, and even the Mitsubishi Outlander. I have found several of these blocks in trashed Hyundai's in the scrapyard for *VERY* cheap.

yea the blocks can be bought for cheap. BUT, SBR put some time and money into making the custom rods and pistons needed to make that set up work. There is also some R&D that went through figuring the quarks of little problems that had here and there in the beginning, But i believe those are all worked out now. They were the first to offer this for the EVOs. I should know as I worked there and led the discovery of what block applications would work! remeber a DSM block can be switched around to look like a EVO directional block, but will have bolt up issues. There are really only subtle differences between two when looking at them side by side.

Is there any difference in the rods and pistons used on a DSM 4G64? I have the feeling that they are the same, and Magnus has been doing the DSM 4G64's for forever. Anyone know?

They are different. The wrist pin off-set is obviously backwards considering the rotation is going in the opposite direction. Plus Magnus got the rods from PAR in australia. The rods SBR had made are from Manley in America for easier aquisition of supply and the same I beam style that Crower and the regualr Manleys are to with stand 600+hp!

Thanks for clearing this up. Just for the record, SBR is the shizzle! I have ordered countless parts for my DSM and have received the next day without any problems whatsoever.
