Problem starting the car... please help me out!

Hey all I Own a 2003 Mitsubishi Evolution VIII and I have a slight problem. Ever since about two months ago my car ha been acting up off and on, and I cannot figure it out. Sometimes when I turn the ignition on and wait for my UTEC to fire up, then I go to turn the car on, and it just makes a clicking sound. Now I have the buschur mini battery and I have replaced it ... so the battery is not the problem. Now keep in mind that this only happens like twice or so a week. It will act up like I explained, and then if I just wait a few minutes and try to start it up again, It will start up just fine. So I dont think it is the starter because sometimes I will go for about a week without having the problem occur, and then out of no where it will happen again. Sometimes it is worse than other times also, sometimes it will take a good 4 or 5 times having to wait...and then start it up to try to get it to crank over. I just cant figure it out. Maybe its a relay fuse shorting out or something like that? has anyone else had this problem? I have searched and found no infromation on this particular problem.

P.S. it isnt like it is turning over and wont start. It just goes "click" and resets all my radio stations and such. Just as if I disconnected my negative batery terminal.

Any info on this would be great. Thanks all in advance!

I had a similar problem with my car, it ended up being a socket (from my hotside install) that fell ontop of the starter. Feel the starter/around it, see if anything has fallen ontop of it.

Check the fuses. The battery is also suspect...

My roomate had a UTEC on his WRX and would have his motor click everytime he started the car. He would prime the car turning the key to the 2nd position and wait for a few seconds, back to the 1st, then back to the 2nd position for a few seconds and then start the car and the click would go away. When he removed the UTEC all of the clicking went away. It sounds like it could be a faulty relay, maybe within the map switch.

Yeah this actually sounds like a Utec related problem. I would check to see if other evo utec users have this problem

It could just be a loose power or ground. Check at the battery and also at the starter. Make sure bolts are tight. From my experience, click is usually the starter not having enough juice or a bad starter.
