Garret GT2871R

i wana run a Garret GT2871R turbo kit on my car. wondering if its too small of a turbo to make any real power. i would go with a gt30 but i dont think i can live with that spool up time, what type of hardware and upgrades would i need to go threw? thanks

I would say go with a 50Trim from ams i think they would hit full boost around the same time and you cant get a lil more power out of the 50trim then you would with the gt28.

what do you mean by "real" power? what kind of goals are you trying to acheive with this turbo, or more importantly, your car?

Stock turbo will do that on pump gas easily. Why waste your money?

You wont need to run alky or really high boost levels to get 350-380WHP. All you would need is all supporting mods inc. cams.

Im not sure what your talking about with building your motor

come on guys, its def not avg for someone to have all supporting mods(no ported head, no sheetmetal intake, etc) to hit 380whp on PUMP gas without meth. It has happened a very few times.

It is easy to do on race gas, and is about avg, but on pump gas....NOPE

If you wanna make 380 or so on pump gas with minimal lag get the 50 trim. its gonna spool later than 3200, but not as late as the 30r.

350-370 is attainable on stock turbo on 93....if those extra 10 ponies really mean alot if u want 380, run alky which will easily around there....unless you have a freakish car like Soon2bevo who hit 378 on pump w the stocker.

forget it.. this turbo is not a match for 4g63..

I had the same thinking as you before.. this was wat happened

1. it is sooo much slower spooling than stock.. try starts waking up at around 3000rpms full boost at 4500rpms
2. it makes the same power as stock at the same boost level.. you need mega boost to make it perform ie 26-27psi..
3. it tapers off at higher rpms and you get the same boost drop..

conclusion?
the 2871 is a mismatch on the evo..
slow spool, narrow powerband, same or only slightly better than stock.. I'd stick with stock or go gt30 don't waste your time

get the gt3071wg .. its like 100 times better
2-300rpm slower boost
you get your whp at around 20-21psi..
drown it with high octane or alcohol crank up the boost and its 400 easy..

He never said he ONLY wants 380... he said 350-380, and i said thats way possable to do with the stock turbo without alky and it is. Why waist all that money on something you dont need?
