AEM ignition amplifier NOT compatible with Evo

Today it was one of this happy/sad days. I ordered a 4 channel CDI ingintion amplifier for my Evo but turn out that these ignitions amplifiers are not compatible with the EVO due to the Evo ignition system. I had it on hand and ready to install but couldn't.

We already called AEM and confirm this issue, AEM says that you have to change the stock ignition in order to make it work. I know you are thinking right now: Off course, there is a little bit of modification involved but it wouldn't work.

IAperformance called me back and told me they couldn't get it to work. Does anyone here has any feedback on that?, Am I the first one to post on this issue or does anyone else had the same problem?

I was very excited, I thought I was getting a smoking deal on this system(about $285) and should do the same as the HKS for nearly half of the price, I guess we need to find other subtitutes.

Thanks!!

Carlos

It's a wasted spark coil on plug system, obviously a ignition amplifier isn't going to do anything any shop that has the slightest clue about anything should know this........

Are you saying that the shop does not know what they are doing or that the part itself is not worth a dime?

Thanks!!

So are they any other person here running this AEM system without a problem then? The shop owner called AEM and they told him that the AEM was not a compatible system.

By any means I am contradicting you, I am saying that he could had sold me the item and charge me for the installation but instead he told me that he couldn't do it.

I really wish someone on this forum could share a bit more on this topic. I know for a fact the AEM ignition is a very very new product and many shop still don't have them. I am as new on this product as anyone else.

you would need to get an ignitor/power transistor unit to get the AEM working correctly.

Thanks!! that sounds more along the lines. I called the shop twice but couldn't speak with the owner/mechanic instead I spoke with the assitant mechanic but I never got the full specific explanation.

To be honest, I think is a technical issue, kind of like a not really a direct bolt on which probably explains the price difference with the HKS DLI II.

It will work fine if you had/have individual coils(IE, ones w/out power transistors built in..)

The box will work fine off of the stock ECU trigger too, a 5V squarewave signal. You should not need an ignitor(IE power transistor) with the c2di.

If you are willing to sell it I'm in bad need of one..and last I heard they were still on backorder. PM me with a price if you would like to sell it please.

Exactly right, you need dumb coils for that AEM C2DI system. Because the stock coils contain the ignitors inside them they are not compatible. I believe the box will work on the Stock ECU or you could use a DSM ignitor/transistor. Regardless if you have that box you should just build a COP ignition system using the 300m coils and go from there. I have been researching the same idea and I am currently in the process of gathering parts needed. I beileve I am going to build the 1g coil setup first since it would be the cheapest route to go.
