Coil on plug diagram - should help some out

I made a quick diagram to help people figure out how to setup a COP setup. This is a very cheap and very effective way to fix any ignition problems you have. Hope this helps, Im tired too so it should be correct but if someone finds something wrong with it let me know and Ill fix it. I do not have the actual ignitor or harness with me so I am going off the colors that I found on the net... they may not be accurate but should be.

And if you want to simply use just the DSM ignitor and coils you can skip all the wiring going to the coils, just leave the DSM wiring from the ignitor to the coils and it will work fine (You will need the 4 spark plug wires as well). That would be the cheap way to fix any ignition problems (Junkyard out the DSM stuff for $20).

Both of these ignitions are proven to hold at least 35psi w/ a 150 shot of nitrous with no other ignition amplifier. For a $20 ignition you cant complain

Trina, have you been working with kcevo on this? I was hoping to see how his setup holds up with the higer boost. Do you have this setup installed yet? Or are you just researching it?

I just got ahold of a bunch of coils and being an X-DSMer I should have those parts also. I read up from what Nate from DS Motorsports wrote (Holding 38psi w/ 150 shot of nitrous) so they should work perfect.

I havent helped anyone out with it yet but hopefully this diagram will help out

I have the coils now and Ill get the ignitor hopefully this weekend and actually plug it all in and see how it does. Ill make any changes I need to to ensure all the wire colors are correct when I do it. I will take some pics too if people want the pics. Should be a straight forward swap though. I should be able to report how it works sometime next week as long as I have all the parts.

Yes the DSM Ignitor and Coil combo works very well. I have been using it for a while now and it will completely clear up misfire problems. It does cost more than 20 bucks though, I think most of you are forgetting that the plugwires alone are going to be the greatest cost. The Coil, Ignitor/Transistor, and Engine harness plugs are about the other half.

I will post the wire colors when ever I get time to go look at my extra ignitor plugs that I have.

Nice post, I'm in! Any more details you could give would be totally apreciated, like what does the DSM ignitor do? LOL.

From my total ignition noob observation I see 2 coil packs on the Evo servicing 4 plugs. Where is the igniter placed in relation to the current stock evo set-up and how do you get a signal to drive the individual coil packs?

... I gues If someone could provide a quick conceptual picture of Evo ignition it would help.

ECU->ignitor->coil->plug? Or more complicated?

Did DSM's have COP stock?
