weird clunk!!

whats up guys. whenever i roll off slowly the car is fine, but if i kinda jerk the car alittle the car makes a loud cling noise. We put the car on 4 jack stands and drove it like that w 2 people under the car listening. i wud purposely come off the clutch and make the car jerk. the motor mounts are tight. it sounds like its either the transfer case or the drive shaft. my guess is the drive shaft but sound does travel through the car. everything is tight. What wud be a sign if the tc was goin?

Sounds like a TORNADO siren the faster you go. if it is on Jackstands, the car is not under LOAD, which you need to tell. did you hear the noise on the jackstands? I don't think that is a good idea to run it on the stands. need to "load" the components to see where the noise is coming from.

I have something very similar that just started recently. Whenever there is a weight shift I get a single clunk and if I get the car to stumble at 3 or 400 RPM it will do it repetedly. I'm taking my car to Mitsu this week to see if they can diagnose it....

I'd also like to know if anyone else has had this problem and what they found the problem to be.

My recent mods were a new Exedy twin and the 3rd Gear TSB. I'm hoping the tech put the transmission back together correctly

My car does the same thing. Although, its been doing it since I got it.
It only does it when its warm outside (everyday now). It also only happens when i push the gas all the way down quickly and "torque" the motor. It makes a weird clunk/metal vibration sound for less than a second and goes away. It sounds like a spring or heat sheild, but I couldnt find anything when I put it on a lift.
I took it to a dealership once to get it looked at, but it was cooler out and wouldnt make the noise. I havent been able to take it back since because I work all day now.

If you guys find out what it is, let me know please.

Every evo i have driven does this, its just drivetrain slack. With as many joints between the crank and the wheels there is alot of moving parts that all have some slack. The clutch is where alot of thise noise is heard at. If you tc takes a poop you will hear it. Its a sounds your will never forget, very loud.

That's not exactly the answer I was looking for. I know 6 people in Fayetteville that have/have had Evo's and none of them ever had this same noise. I have 45K miles on my 03 and it just started making this noise about a week ago. When I can duplicate it at slow speeds it sounds like it's coming from the back side of the engine bay...somewhere near the throttle body. Of couse this is the same area around the TC and Clutch area.

Change the fluid in the trans/TC (STOCK FLUID ONLY) and see if it diminishes or goes away. type in "tornado siren" in the search area, some good info there!

My TC fluid is Diaqueen (stock) and my trans fluid is Syncromesh.
Please read thoroughly before posting...it only happens to my car when there is a weight shift.

Make sure your DP isn't hitting your TC or cross bar?

Mine does this too, occasionally. I am not sure if it is the DP interfereing tithe the tie/cross car as stated, but it's sp infrequent and the car runs fine so I try to ignore it.

Yes, I also cringed at reading of a car on jackstands running, spinning its wheels, especially with people under it.

Well I took my car to and of course they make me look like a fool by tightening the rear transmission mount! The bolt was loose enough that it was rattling inside the metal spacer....

Oh well, I'm happy that it wasn't something expensive!

Mine does the same thing, since my last stock clutch install. Is it the mount under the battery tray?

Thanks
