Let's talk about this one for a moment.....shall we.

Last year this kid takes his car to a "famous shop" that sends his transfer case to "another shop " that also builds transmissions. That shop tells him that it's going to cost $$$.

So he then calls me up and asks my price. I tell him something that turned out to be a little cheaper than the "other shop". At this point I don't know where the car or the transfer case is at.

Then this kid goes on and tells me the story that his car is at this "famous shop" and how his transfer case is at "the other shop" that builds transmissions....

Right then and there I tell the kid, "no way". I'm not getting involved with this one. I don't want any part of it. His story had gotten way too weird and I'm not down with it.

A few days later, he sends me an email explaining how he's all pist because the "other shop" that builds transmissions won't ship his junk transfer case directly to me and how they are jerks for wanting to charge him money for taking it apart and inspecting it.... I reply back with what did you expect them to do????

Really What did you expect the "other shop" to do? Ship it for free???

So this kid then sends me an email telling me how he was now mad at the "famous shop" and that he doesn't like them anymore and how he's having his car towed out of there because they won't ship the transfer case to my shop either.

Again, I ask you what did you expect? You messing up these "shops" arrangement and then you get mad at them? I already told you I didn't want to get involved with your situation and still your transfer case is on the way over here. What part of no didn't you understand?

Eventually this transfer case makes it to my shop. I wet magnafluxed the ring & pinion and the ring is all cracked up, big nasty cracks down in root fillet portion of the teeth. I tell him that it's junk and that the cost is $$$.

He's all bummed out and tells me he'll have to save up his money because the other shops took all his money. Good for them, I hope you got all you could from this kid.

Now being placed in the situation by this kid I am extremely cautious... I gather up all our correspondence and take lots of photos of the parts. Unfortunately, I've worked with some troublemakers in the past and this one is nothing but trouble.

I still have your original transfer case over here and all of our emails kid

Finally, he pays for the transfer case and we ship it over him.

A week later he calls me up and tells me that the "famous shop" had ultimately installed the new transfer case and that the car is binding when making turns. Yeah, he takes it back to this shop....after all of his cussing & swearing about them.

I tell him to send the transfer case over to me and I'll check it out.

A few days later he emails me and says that we put one too many shims in the front diff and that's why it was binding. I ask him how does he know this and he explains the "famous shop" told him so.

This I find odd because YOU CAN'T PUT AN EXTRA SHIM IN THERE BECAUSE IT'S .060" TOO MUCH AND YOU CAN'T EVEN BOLT THE FRONT DIFF HOUSING TOGETHER WITHOUT IT BINDING UP LIKE A B$%#H....

However, at the time some "shops" seemed to have trouble getting the axles to click into place and once upon a time thought that by adding an extra shim you could get the axle to click into place..... and I even had spoken with these "shops" about this right around the same time...

Starting to haunt you too now isn't it.

I explain to this kid that we know better than to add another shim and how it won't bolt together with the extra shim.

So he has some photos taken of the parts in question and I notice that the hand writing is NOT THE SAME AS MY HANDWRITING.

I am left handed and write most of my letters backward/upside-down, something that you other Lefty's know about I'm sure and you can be damn sure that I know my own handwriting just like anyone else knows there own.

Not only that, but the gears didn't have the new finish to them like a new set of gears have and the numbers aren't even in the same spot that we engrave them when we do a transfer case and they were not written by me or anyone in my shop for that matter.

I confront this kid about this problem and he claims that because it had his dad's name on the gear it must be ours because the "other famous" shop wouldn't know his daddy's name, that is unless they opened it to take photos....

I tell him to send the transfer case back here and doesn't because "it's all better now". So nothing became of this and it just seemed to go away until now. Kid,
I saved all the crap surrounding is event just like everything else. Let me know if you need a refresher.

I want anyone else who is thinking about pulling some stupid S@%t like this with me again to consider your actions. I am still marking our gears and just because you can write a name and some numbers doesn't make it ours and I can easily tell what is and isn't so keep that in mind....

In not way am I trying to take advantage of anyone, not even over a snap ring. What you get is what you paid for and a whole lot more when it comes to my shop, simple as that. We are not the fastest shop but does the best food come from a restaurant that has the food ready waiting under the heat lamp?

Anyone who knows me knows that I certainly ain't getting rich off of this work and that I'm here all the time giving you my best work. Now if I could just find good help.

As always, thanks for the space.

Man kid, you really messed up that story.

Ya kid, you know its funny how you said you were going to ship out the transfer case you had "in stock ready to ship" with a forged spider gear set the same day I was shipping out my busted one. Although, you didn't ship mine out until after you got mine?

How does a sealed t-case ready to ship end up with my name engraved on the ring kid?

Its also funny that you explained to me on the phone that the guy (your kid employee) who put together the transfer case, you were about to fire because you thought he was shaddy and a bad worker.

Then a couple of days later you denied that and said you (meaning your shop) was not going to take responsibility!?

You were all appologetic about what happened then did a 180 and got all defensive like you were severly bipolor.

Bottom line, I paid $ for some junk, and you know what happened.

And BTW, I have a lot of pics as well.

back when i had my 1g awd rebuilt from them, they told me it was sent and gave me fake tracking number, then said fed ex broke the box and it was return and gave me a real tracking number the next week. maybe fed ex messed up? or maybe they some times tell storys when they take to long to get **** sent out. believe me i was pissed off, but they do good work.

just seems like lots of people have trouble with getting it back when they should. you'll be happy when you get it. sorry they do take a long time!

I also know they do good work. There are an endless number of people who swear by the toughness of their stuff. It just seems like I am not the only one who has had problems.

Trust me Jon, I wish everything would have gone right and I was using your t-case, kid.

Bottom line. TRE does excellent work. They can't be all things to all people at the same time. I've notice a trend with todays EVO owners in general. Not all but many people. They have a want it now attitude. Demand, expect things right now. You know why there aren't many shops doing tranny's? Cause its not easy or very profitable. If it was, everybody and their brother would be doing trannies. Same goes for engines.
How as many of these trans get broken is beyond me. Lot of factors. Near the top of the list you can put down " unable to properly shift a manual transmission." Its too bad there are so many who make EVO's look cheap or failure prone. Just like DSM's got that reputation. More times than not it was user error, or a king kong clutch installed. But nobody ever wants to admit that.
Anyone who races their only car should step up and accept the consequences when it breaks. Not needlessly blame the car.

Burritos give me gas!!

Jon, we are not swayed away from you about this incident, we stand behind you, don't sweat it!! I would even buy a TRE lunchbox if they made them!! Your quality and craftmanship is SECOND TO NONE in my book!! carry on my friend. just fill the tranny with bannanas and saw-dust, and stamp "ACME transmissions" on the box. I got his tracking number:

Did you call him for a tracking number?
He already said it was done and shipped. You should have just called him while he was on the forum, you then know that he had to stop working to respond to this thread.

why should i have to call for a tracking number now? he should just PM it to me. the mans very tough to get in touch with. if you've dealed with him you'd know that. He'll call me when he has time, which theres no time telling when he will. I'm easier to get ahold of than he is and trust me i've tried my butt off. He knows how to get ahold of me.

Well, i used to have a TRE built tranny and it didnt last me 5K miles and it was already grinding gears. I had the same problem with TRE getting me a box to get the tranny to them, it took like 2 weeks, supposedly the box got lost. Come to think of it, they lost a box twice on me. I wouldnt swear by their work, I think its ok. Their customer service just plain sux. If I was ever to buy another Evo and needed tranny work, I would definitely not even think of TRE. To be honest I had WORKS rebuild me a tranny and it was 10x's better than the TRE one was from day 1, it felt a lot smoother and I didnt have any issues with it. Flame all you want but Ive been there and done that.

This thread has turned into nothing but a bash session against TRE.
As such I don't think it going anywhere but further into the ****ter.
