WOW, lots of interesting info here. But to all the IL guys that says they dont have to do emissions because of the county they live in are wrong. State emissions are controlled by the state not by the county. Ive lived in dupage county before and you still have to do them. And secondaly if you car is a 1999 or newer I believe, they dont even do a smog test on the car, all they do is hook a scanner to your port to check for cels, and a gas cap pressure test. Lastly, even if they wanted to do a smog test, the emissions places in IL here dont have awd rollers. So they just hook up the sniffer to your exhaust, and rev the car up a couple of times, which we all know doesnt put load on the motor, and intern wont increase your emissions much at all. I dont know how it is in cali, but in AZ they couldnt do a smog test on my audi, becaue of no awd rollers, just gas cap, and obd scanner. Thats it.

i got my smog test letter in the mail a couple months ago. Car is registered in DuPage County IL, the state regulates the testing, but they really go by zip codes on who is exempt from testing. I am sure other states have similar epa websites to check if their vehicle is subject to testing. For IL people check this out. http://www.epa.state.il.us/air/vim/

I have mine as a "race car" so it is not subject to emissions testing. Also if you have your car as strictly show you may be exempt if your insurance indicates "show car" http://www.epa.state.il.us/air/vim/forms/index.html all you have to do is fill out the form and provide proof through insurance

In Pa if you drive less then 5k per year you are exempt. Other wise every year OBDII read.

Just had mind done in CT. OBDII no dyno or sniffer. The key is no CEL or SES codes at idle or stored and you are good to go.

i only have the obd2 scan every 2 years which isnt a problem. the problem is the COPS in my area; if they smell your test pipe when they're behind you at a stoplight or just THINK your exhaust is too loud, you're pulled over. then you have to get it decibel tested and chances are it won't pass, so back to stock. i can pass emissions with a test pipe no problem, but i have to opt for the hfc because of cops.

I am on my way to get a Smog test today in Cali. I dont have to pass the visual because it is registered out of state. I do have to pass the sniffer and scanner though. I passed last year when I did it.
