boost flutter??? help please

05 evo gsr

The car has been acting strange after boost controller install. First was an Hks evc. That is when the flutter started. When on the gas at any throtle the boost flutters. Sounds like the bov is consistently releasing pressure but i have not proven that the bov is the source.

After the first evc a second was tried and the same thing happened. That evc was put on another evo and the same problem happened. That car had the same mods but no tuning.

Next an avcr was put on and it still flutters. Also we changed the bov to the mr bov and to an aps bov, still the same result. Between putting the evc and the avcr the car ran without flutter but only 11psi.

Recently the ses light came on with a p0139 code and the flutter stopped. The code went off by itself a day later and still no problem. Two days later the flutter comes back.

Any question will be answered we just need to figure this out so feel free to problem solve if i left something out.

At first read - its sounds like your BOV spring tension was too tight. But that cant be it. Must be a vacuum issue.

Did you remove the pill from the boost line coming from the compressor to the soleniod? Meaning - did you replace the whole line?

all of the lines have been replaced with the ones that come with the boost controller. Also we did a boost leak test and there was no leaks everything held.

When boosting, you should be at full throttle. If you partial throttle boost, especially in 4th or 5th gear, you will get that flutter, since there is more load at higher gears. You will notice the flutter more if you have an aftermarket BOV or intake.

You can adjust the preload on the spring and dial out any type of flutter. You can also get the boost/vacuum transition to be smooth as stock.

The same thing happened on my 03 as soon as I added a mbc it started fluttering. I though it was due to the plastic dv so I got the jdm mr dv and it still continued.I never found out what is was cause I traded it but I was just letting you know I have seen this on alot of VIII
