engine blew!

The service engine soon light has been coming on for a while now with a misfire code. The dealer reprogramed the computer and replaced plugs and wires. Then they thought it was the injectors. Friday I went in and they cleaned the injectors. About 20 minutes and 20 miles later, I was going about 75 in 5th and tried to accelerate and something blew. There was a loud pop and the engine died. It would not start for 3 or 4 tries, but then started and was very rough at idle. When I tried to drive it, the engine had no power and would not drive. It is now back at the dealer, but I am wondering what it was and how worried I should be.

Wow! I'm sure there is a good number of us that get the misfire (P0300) code, including myself, however I've never heard of it causing an engine to blow! That's extreme!

Was there any oil or signs of white smoke when the incident occurred?

Sounds like an I/C hose to me also, but keep us informed for sure. Good luck!

Should have kept driving the 03 Cobra. :P
But don't worry. It's not a blown engine.
Yet.

all evo owners should have basic tools in the trunk for such cases, this way costly towing expenses can be avoided by simply searching for the hose ( prob the one under the intake) and tightening the clamp. If it wasnt for this forum i would have towed my vehicle a few weeks ago instead of DIY

hahaha....no your engine did not blow up...as everyone else says, its your intercooler piping. You should carry a flat head or 10 mm socket and drive for the next time this happens. Definitely ask the dealer to check the intercooler pipes.

Need to read up a little bit more before you post a new thread. You need to familarize yourself with the car. When my old SR powered 240 blew a hose for the 1st time i thought i had blown something up too, but i got under the hood and looked. Thats all you need to do. You dont see anything then call the tow company.

Yup. Your options are:
1 - carry some kinda tool that you can use to tighten up the Intercooler piping hoses.
2 - replace dem hoses with some T-bolt clamps.
