How to ELIMINATE the 35R Fart Can

Well let's let my other board die and start the exhaust "Fart can" discussion begin here. As some of you may know I recently installed a 35R on my car and my exhaust note went from good to terrible. With the stock turbo/manifold the Apexi N1 sounded great. Now that I have a big turbo and tubular manifold I know have a serious "Fart Can" exhaust. It is raspy and sounds like one huge fart in a coffee can. I am looking to eliminate this sound completely and wish to do it with a universal muffler. Can anyone suggest from past experience a universal muffler that will do the trick? Would a resonator take care of this or would I need a resonator and a new muffler? The external WG dump is loud enough so something nice and quiet wouldn't be bad since I have plenty of noise when that WG opens.

Thanks

I would say that using a resonator will work , but a good muffler will do the trick ! I had pretty much the same set-up you have but I use a custom muffler we had done over seas and a full 4" exhaust and I never had the need to use anything but I'm sure maybe an HKS or Greddy unit will work just as good . I ahte that fart-can sound man so I feel your pain , good luck ..

What works?

The "fart" sound is my FAVORITE sound my car makes. Is it a firecracker pop sound in between shifts?
If your exhaust sounds like a fart every second your driving, then you're talking about something different then I am.

The sound I am talking about is not a backfire it is a constand raspy fart sound that sounds like farting into a coffee can. To me it sounds like every car I have ever made fun of which is usually some old *** Honda with this huge fart can on the back making all kinds of noise and hardly moving. The sound is louder then life itself and I just pray for the WG to open so I don't have to here it's horror anymore.

I assume AMS uses the Magnaflow muffler.... It appears to be the same shape as the one I was thinking about.

Do you have an external dump? I would'nt of got something like a 35r if I wanted to be quite. The test pipe will add raspiness too. Try a muffler that is higher flowing with as many resopnators as you can. Ever since i got my 35r I drive 5miles under the speed limit because of the noise.

Ya know..... putting in a high flow cat should help quite a bit with the raspyiness and make the exhaust cleaner to boot
