I'll offer this sound bit of logic:

IF his assertion that his cylinder wall finish was compromised purely as a result of methanol injection is correct, than a host of forum members (including myself) should observe the very same thing when we pop our heads (which I'll be doing before long). Has anyone else reported the same?

IF his assertion is incorrect, then we won't witness the same thing, and best evidence suggests that it was due to something else particular to his setup (elements of which are apparently atypical).

My point is simply that right or wrong, one example hardly constitutes a statistically valid sample, especially when no other (?) similar reports have surfaced.
The video shows very clearly the overun of meth. I think it is this alone that causes cylinder wash. A/F goes very rich during coastdown when it should be very lean. I just removed head on a fresh engine with only 5000 miles on it. Always run with 10g jet from day one. I am seeing the same thing. Cylinder wear is rapid. I wish it weren't true.

I am switching all three of my cars to solenoid control of some sort.

the nozzle on the right is driven by a "on-demand" shurflo that most injection company used for their progressive pwm variable pressure/flowrate kit.

Has anyone tried this with a Flojet/SMC system?

Do you feel that running 50% Meth will create the rapid cylinder wear? 5000 miles and showing wear is crazy....Thanks

Our standard PROGRESSIVE meth kits come with the proper one way check valve that prevents this from happening.

Ours is NOT made from brass.

Check valves are only gonna be around 1 bar(15psi) . The other 12 bar(200psi) of pressure still bleeds off. The check valve is to prevent engine vacuum from sucking the line dry. It doesn't help with overrun issue.

Shurflo recommands using a checkvalve no greater than 2 psig.

Coolingmist uses a 22 psig CV - not a good idea for a progressive variable pressure/flow system as it further limits the already limited dynamic range of a pwm pump speed system.

I use one of these, cheap and effective

Ted B / others -- Anymore insight into cylinder washing? 94AWD's findings are very concerning to me and I want to see if others are experiencing the same thing.

Based upon what I have read, I think I will go the alk (either 50% water / 50% denatured alk. or 100% denatured alk.) primarily because of availability (lowes, home depot, etc.).

Not with a system that has proper overrun shutoffs, like the Aquamist.

So are there options to adding a overrun shut-off on the SMC kits?

I won't be able to contribute where that is concerned until after my engine swap (coming fairly soon).
