Gates Racing Timing Belt

I was searching around for a new timing belt for my Evo. I saw Gates racing and heard alot of good things about them. But when I went to their website to look up the belt, it says "interference engine application." Has anyone run into any problem with them and what interference are they talking about?

thanks

Interference fit engine is an engine that the valves can contact the pistons if the timing belt or chain breaks . With one cylinder or more with the valves fully open and the piston coming up.

Non inteference engines dont have clearance problems when the piston comes up with the valves fully open.

An example of an interference engine is the 4G63 (EVO). If your timing belt breaks you are screwed. Broken valves, broken pistons, destroyed head.

An example of a non-interference engine is the 1JZ/2JZ (Supra). If your timing belt breaks, you just replace it and keep on going. No internal damage should occur.
