HELP!!! Low Boost at Full Throttle...

Hey guy's,
I'm a new member looking for some help. My car is running low boost at full throttle. If I mat the gas it will only run 15lbs droping to 12lbs sometimes. Normally it would run 20lbs to red...

Mods: B&B Downpipe & Catback, K&N Typhoon & DynoFlash Mail-in
Car: 2003 Cool Silver GSR w/45K

I went to the dealer with this problem, first they replaced my wastegate and acuator, then the plugs, and finally the knock censor. They told me that something electronically was retarding the timing. They gave up on me and told me to put a MBC on it and it would be fine. My plugs were very white, they looked way to lean to me. Do you think my tune is the cause of the problems??? I had the flash done over a year ago, and it's been fine. Any ideas??? I have another ECU on the way to try that...

What changed recently?

Why do you have another ECU on the way? You should only be using your original stock ECU - there's no need for another ECU.

The tune is the same as it was a year ago, so that isn't the problem.

Why do you have the absolute worst intake ever for the Evo? Remove it, please, and put on your stocker.

Have you tried an MBC yet? You should have been using one this whole time anyway.

Nothing has changed recently other than this problem. It came out of the blue... I have heard that before about the intake by the way. I have another ECU on the way because some friends of mine said I may want to try it to see if its an internal ground that may be bad. My friends are BMW techs and they say they go bad in those cars all the time. I'm out of ideas? Do you have any idea? Where would you look?

BMW techs are always diagnosing electrical problems in "their" cars.
20psi at redline? I guess your peaking at least 24 psi? 93 octane?

Since your plugs are white(possible lean afr's), I'd start by logging timing, Afr's,ect....before I turn up the boost.

Al sent you a mail-in flash for that horrible intake ? Usually he'd tell someone to run a drop-in instead for your mods.

Well, don't base your purchases off BMW techs. It is very unlikely that your ECU just suddenly went haywire and made your boost go down. Plus, you can't just put in another ECU. It has to get keyed and sync'd at Mitsu - it's not plug'n'play. That was probably the last thing I would have done is to buy an entire ECU.

Anyway, yes, I have ideas, but I need more info first. You need to do a boost leak test, check your boost hoses, try an MBC, etc.

I bought the ECU used from a scrap yard for $75 so I'm not that worried about the money if it doesn't work. I didn't know they had to be coded to the car. Yes Al did give me a flash for the intake, he is the one that recomended that I switch to another brand. I firgured the difference would only be a few hp so why bother. Anyway, what kind of more info do you need. All the leak pest were performed at the dealer, all the hoses are fine. There is something alse going...

I doubt the dealer actually did a boost leak test nor even knows how to do a boost leak test. I also don't believe the hoses are fine, but whatever.

Changing the intake had nothing to do with more or less HP - it has to do with the fact the Typhoon has a terrible design that throws off everything.

Amazing that you got an $800 Evo ECU for $75 - turn it for a profit. If you try to use it, be sure it is the right year and firmware for your Evo.

For your low boost..I would guess your BCS isn't closing all the way, or maybe it's getting stuck.
See if you can find one on that scrap yard of yours and swap it. This is if you don't have any leaks.
Or just use a MBC as Warr sugg. if your worried about boosting low.

But I'd be worried more if your plugs look really white as you said.

Not trying to sound to stupid but what is a BCS? Boost Control Sensor? I don't want to just use a MBC because of the way the plugs look... I'm not trying to cause the thing to meltdown.
