CBRD ebay exhaust testing...
ok guys..
more exhaust testing to throw into the hot pot.
here is what we did.
the evo ix we used, has a nice flash and the following mods:
Nisei licp
Injen upper and intake
APS bov
fuel pump
sun hyper igni. box.
so its not as stock as I'd like.
the first exhaust on the car originally is an exhaust that was custom made when we were working with another welder. That exhaust DOES have a high flow random technology 3" cat, with a vband after the cat to a 3" catback with a 3" magnaflow straight through muffler.
we then tested the ebay turboback WITHOUT a cat. I know, we should have tested catless to catless, but i didnt have the opportunity this time, we were also installing a twin disk, gauges, injectors and an evo GREEN (after this testing was done)
Anyway,
the results were as follows (dyno charts will be up later)
first 3 pulls were with the custom exhaust, 23 psi, no knock.... and afr 11.1 tapering to 10.7 on 92 octane.
average of the 3 pulls (none varying by more than 2whp 2 wtq) was 286/302.
after the exhaust swap,
the car immediately gained 2.5 psi peak boost, so i lifted and then did some part pulls to get the boost right back to 23.0.
afr's leaned out slightly and by slightly i mean about .1 afr, and on average the car made about 5-8whp and 6-8wtq with 6 pulls back to back. these were PEAK gains.
BUT the shape of the curve changed dramatically. The boost held longer, torque held longer, and hp climbed earlier.
Now, after the testing, i was able to do some tuning, for about 5-6 pulls. The new exhaust allowed me to run a bit more timing (apprx 2 degrees or so) throug hthe entire pull without any knock counts at all, same boost. I kept the boost at 23 psi.
again, overall PEAK numbers after the tune didnt change much, but just fattened up the curve, which is what we are looking for.
--------------
anyway, just more info.
---------------------------
ill post pics and dyno plots tonight...
the car now has the twin disk cusco in it, and the fp green on, it gets broken in over the weekend and then tuned next week. This car hasn't shown quite the power the other ix's have (we have made 340/340 on one on pump at 25psi on 93, and on average 320whp/305-310wtq on the rest with basic turboback, lower ic fuel pump and mbc at 23 psi)...........
anyway food for thought.
thanks guys!

basically,
what the results prove...
fitment is great, no problems... clears the braces etc and an TC
and it makes good power in general....
hard to knock it. again, to each their own. I used to be against "cheap" stuff, then as we have tested it, i've become to believe its "inexpensive" not cheap. and as my father has been involved in some business exchanges with some companies in china, i have seen even more to prove that their quality is fantastic, they can build things for 30% of what we can over here, because of their workforce.

nice test...thanks for taking the time to post your results.
there's always gonna be those that think "you get what you pay for" and in most cases thats true but sometimes there are exceptions to the rules

No modification was needed to fit the DP by the ACD?
I gues this means that the exhuast which you made was really bad ?

well i have the Buschur exhaust and i love it. when i put it on it was a huge difference. i personally have never seen one of these ebay exhuasts.
i think i want to contact a popular mag and see if they will get a whole bunch of exhausts and test them all. we need and end all be all results with more than just 2 exhausts being tested.

but of course!
basically,
what the results prove...
fitment is great, no problems... clears the braces etc and an TC
and it makes good power in general....
hard to knock it. again, to each their own. Of course it is hard to generalize an huge nation of a billion plus people on a few parts - keep in mind China made ebay can mean totally different goods - some may be great and some may suck
My main objection to what I have seen as ebay exhuasts has been the design which has been inferior from a performance stand point to other systems whuich as Buschur, AMS, TX's etc
"to each his own" is a very good observtaion in this example

thats crazy cheap
