seriously. If you are going to but big turbo on, you might aswell stroker your engine.

^ that's not true... you just need to get a decent kit. the rnr kit doesn't spool til like 5k... the normal 3076 kits usually spool at 4.5 or so which is a pretty big diff when you're waiting for bottom end build up.

the point of the big turbo kit is to exploit the extra 2000rpm of power you can make at the top end when revving to 8k which is possible and easy even wtih stock long block components (cams might not like it up there but that's why you get different ones)

stock is 3k - 6.5 (if you're lucky) then you have a noisemaker. big turbo is high 4k to 8k that's a lot more to work with and feels better roadracing where you need to use your gears.

I have a 35r and stroker and still miss the stock spool. I'm in vacuum 99% of the time around town. With the stocker the turbo was breathing with every touch of the throttle. Even though I miss it I wouldn't trade the power when the 35r kicks in. Its worth the wait.

see i dont miss my stocker at all. the boost was so not smooth and irratic it pissed me off. it was either no boost or full on WOT, no inbetween without crazy shuttering. with the kit i have now the power delivery is so smooth and i can boost anything inbetween without the car not knowing what the hell to do.

Wow I'd never describe a stock'ish evo engine as "not smooth".

All the evos I've driven in were very smooth reving and could control boost with throttle.

Vboy425,

I was wondering if I can get a ride before you remove the 3076 kit ?

I would like to see what it feels like.

By the way ... I'm Troy from Pasadena.

I know who you are Troy. eitherway too late. i swap them out last night. Also don't me wrong. the lag suck ***. but once it spool up. damn thing pull like a freight train. I do a lot of road racing. the with the lag, it's going to hurt me a lot around turns/exiting.

Vboy I hear what your saying but to be honest every full out road racing car is running a 3076 or larger. You can make tons of power on a stock turbo too but the gains to be had going to a bigger one are too huge to make running a stock sized turbo worth it. If your ever below 4k rpms on a road course your usually doing something wrong, or its very very infrequently, I ran my 2.3 3076 on the track and never ever had to wait for full boost, I am moving to a 35R and expect it to be much quicker around the same courses, at Pocono I was doing about 165, its going to be scary now, that was on pump gas too.

Dave Buschur calls the 3076R a Turd and I am inclined to believe him.

IX Turbo
50TRIM
GT35R (37R for extreme street users)
and now the FP GREEN

These should be your only STREET turbo options, it is that simple. Each and everyone of these turbos has been proven a winner, the 50Trim haveing the most positive results not to mention that the IX spools it SO quick and 450WHP on pump is found easilly on a flash.
Sorry .. when you guys talk about these turbos .. I have absolutely no idea exactly what you're comparing to ..

eg GT3076 / GT3065 / GT3056 / 50 trim / GT30R ...
The closest I think I can decipher is the 2nd set of numbers refers to the size of the compressor wheels or the trim ?? (ie 76mm compressor for 3076 .. 56trim for 3056??)

The family of GT30 is so huge its hard to compare the "my GT30 is better than your GT30" well .. other than the ATP GT3071 or ATP 3037 (71mm compressor and 76mm compressor)

I've attached the HKS reference so maybe there's a common starting point next time ???

Wow you are fast.

If your weren't happy with the GT30 setup, I can't
blame you for putting your other setup back on.

I'm not sure what you mean It made 375.2whp on a DD on pump gas. I thought that was pretty good. That would be approx.430ish on a DJ. I tried to see if I could sneak in at Topspeed to confirm but they are booked 2wks out. I'll have to ask Andrew, but I think it's the highest HP of any 3076 w/93 only on his dyno. The weekend I dynoed, there were 2 other 3076 car there and I beat them by 25-35 whp.

Wow, 5000+ rpm for full spool is pretty late. I'm running an AMS 50 trim on a 2.0l(full spool at ~3900rpm) and I do miss the small stock turbo at times for putzing around town ... but on a road-course, once I clear 4K rpm on the way to shifting at 8500 it's pure magic. Makes the sacrifices in some drivability totally worth it for me.
