Just an FYI. I never once oiled the filter with a re-charge kit or anything. The smart thing would have been to get all of the excess oil out prior to the install. This is the second filter placed in the car as the first was loaded in at 10K miles and the second at 17K after the first was damaged in a car accident. The body shop did tell me when they replaced the filter than the MAF had a lot of oil in it. Regardless, I will be investing in a catch can and switching to a non oiled Buschur filter.

I took your advice and cleaned mine this morning. Excellent thread because mine was black just like yours. Looks great now. BTW...to anyone going to do this. Spray it outside. I did it on my desk with some paper towel and man did it shoot everywhere. I was so excited to clean it I probably should have thought it out first.

If you can't find the stuff at AZ or PEP Boys, NAPA sells it, too (thats where I got mine).

Might have to pick up a can and do both my vehicles. Been meaning to do it just never got around to it.

Speaking of over oiling a K&N filter my buddy cleaned his at work the other day and sprayed the entire can of oil onto the filter. it was dripping while he was walking to his truck with it. He wouldnt listen we were all telling him he is using way too much oil. Guess ill give him a can off cleaner for his MAS

This thread got me wondering about my maf sensor. So I checked mine today and it was still in good condition, not dirty at all.

Ok, so I did this today, and in the process (don't ask) I slightly damaged the MAF screen (very slightly). Does the screen need to be prefect, or can it work properly slightly damaged?

It should be fine. You bent the little fins a little bit. I bet it wont be a huge issue.

Well after reading this I cleaned mine...it turned from black to silver and alot of dirt came off. After I fired the car back up, it idled smoother and also throttle responce was much better and also the car did feel faster. Even my girl noticed with out me saying anything. Trust me if she can tell, it made a differance. I give this two thumbs up and it should be apart of a regular maintanance on our cars.

I just did this also yesterday. My car had like 23000 miles on it and it had a BMC (oil type) drop-in filter the entire time. I just recently put on a new Monster Sport drop-in filter (too much oil from factory) so I figure I try this.

My MAF wasnt dirty if any at all. I sprayed it anyway and d/c the battery for 10 min. Fired it up and RPM jumped to like 2500 lol. Car ran ALOT smoother and throttle felt so much better. Even with the a/c on.

for CRC MAF cleaner spray
