Unplug it. Set it on paper towel and spray it down. Flip it over and do the same. Make sure its dry before plugging it back in.

I just cleaned my MAF and Perrin foam intake. Good lord. The filter was disgustingly dirty. big pieces of black crap came out after shaking it all loose. After spraying the foam filter cleaner and running it under water, it was diiiiirty diiiiirty. The MAF was a little dirty, especially the honeycomb screen. There was 1.5 bent fins. After spraying it down with the CRC MAF Cleaner, the blue shop towel clearly turned slightly brown/black from the crap that came out. Looks spotless now.

I will see if I get the engine shooting to 3k rpms phenomenon upon starting the car for first time after cleaning. I will pay attention to idle (AC ON/OFF), ease of start up, mpg, throttle response, see if it solves my stalling issue, CEL P0172 code (bank 1 too rich), and if it even gave me more hp or not. I doubt I will feel the difference power wise. This is first time i ever cleaned it. LOL! 60k miles. Maybe it was cleaned once before at 40k, can't remember.

Definitely gonna do this before I get my car tuned! I used to take the screen out of my 1G Laser. But I didn't have the stock MAF for very long LMAO.

I need to clean my TB as well. Is there a certain procedure I should follow. I cleaned it once a while back and it's starting to feel a bit sticky again.

Just did mine this second, will report. Mine wasn't all that dirty! I have an HKS intake as well, go figure. Still some dirt came out on the paper towel but even before my 98,000 Mile MAF looked great and now looks new.

Great post that goes way back. I'll have to give a try. Have never cleaned mine, 80,000 on the clock.

essentially MAF cleaner is just circuit board cleaner. If it doesnt say its safe for electronics on the can of bottle I wouldnt trust it as MAFs are salty to replace.
Found an answer. Disregard my previous post lol

ive used this stuff it works good, watch out for the little wire that has the red resistor on it inside. Dont get the cleaner on that stuff if you can help it, Thats the heater wire for the maf sensor, that gets dirty or that spray on it, well youll be a$$ed out a few hundred on a new oem maf. But it does work well..

Wait a minute! So you're telling me that whenever a sensor is dirty, it performs worse than when it's clean? HOLY GUACAMOLE!

This should go under "general maintenance."

well,

i took it off the car all ready to clean it (never done it in approaching 6 years of ownership)

aaand:

it's clean - i guess the shop did it when we swapped out the stock intake tube for the fp. was kind of looking forward to it, oh well. i'll check it again in a year - i do a lot of highway traveling past farm area (bugs and grime) so we'll see how clean it stays with the amsoil dry filter
