boost problem
boost problem
ok last nite i did some work on the car..i took off valve cover cus it cracked last time and was leaking oil. fixed that problem no leak..then i got bored and sanded/primered/painted my tial bov to match car..put bov back on,clamp,lines,etc..
anyways i take car to mcdonalds to check for leaks in valve cover...no leaks..but the car died on me like 25times!its never done that...(has sometimes in mornings) but never 25times or so to go 2miles down the road..
anyways car would start up and die, idle rough, then die..anyways when i got home i let it sit and then started it up and it idle fine..weird...
also on way to mcdonalds and back it would bog up top, check gauge..it was at 13-15psi!!MBC is set for 22psi...
so i re took off bov thinking i had a leak there...took it out again...i punch it and it holds up top now,but 13-15psi...so i crank boost controller (not sure how it got turned down,if at all)anyways then i go WOT and still 15 psi...crank it 15psi..!!!
so what could be wrong?i crank the MBC and goes no where...i stopped doing that tho, thinking i have a leak and possibly im at more then 15psi but it only reads 15...
so what can i check for,all piping is good, everythings plugged in,lines are good for bov and MBC...
im running a hallman bro..
thanks

you Definitely have all the symtoms of a massive boost leak. Somewhere there must be a massive leak. Is your BOV VTA? That can at least cause the stalling, if its not adjusted right it will open before its supposed to and vent off boost while you are still on the gas.
well the dieing and rough idling stopped...i didnt even do anything to the car and i came let it cool down and then it started right up and idled...now its the boost problem...wont boost past 15psi...but car still pulls..
so i took off bov and made sure it was on securely...so bout to go take GF to work and check again...if anything take to a shop and get boost leak tested

ok i checked everything today...bought new vacuum lines and VAC-TEE....punched it and still leak!
so i take off mbc and hook up directly to the WG...goes to 10psi and holds...doesnt seem to be a leak..
anyone know how/if i can fix my MBC?its a hallman pro(black)
Please help 10psi on a ams 35R is useless!!

Do a boost leak down test on the car thats the only way you are going to determine your leaks. Go to home depot and go to the plumning section buy a 2.5 to 2 inch rubber plunger looking thing thats hollow. THen buy a 2 inch pvc cap. Drll the pvc cap so that it will screw in a airline that you can open and close. it should have a gauge on it as well. you may do the 3 inch to 2.5 inch as well depending on your intake size. After that push air through the system Open the solenoid on the pressure tester watch the psi go up then close it
and listen for leaks. if you hear something but not sure where its at spray soapy water on it and you will see it bubble. Kind of strange that all of this just happened after you took your bov off the car. Try putting the stock bov on the car and see if that works.

yeha it is weird....well i believe i fixed all the leaks...its my MBC that went **** up on me now...b.c it wouldnt boost over 15psi...but once i ran boost straight from the WG it boosted 10psi and held no leaks from what i could feel...probably grab another mbc and test it....

You haven't proven that the MBC is bad quite yet. 10 PSI is less than 15 PSI. Just because you don't "feel" any leaks at 10 PSI doesn't mean there are any. Do you "feel" leaks at 15 PSI or do you just not feel full power? I think what is happening is that you're leaking, and the most your turbo can put out to try and overcome the leak is by pressing out what the boost gauge registers as 15 PSI. When you take the MBC out of the picture, the turbo only spins up to 10 PSI and works just dandy.
My money is on the TiAL. They make great products, but when you took it apart and painted it, I bet you either put it back together wrong or some paint is now causing it to be permanently cracked open.

and a leak is a leak isnt it?if i leak at 15psi wont i leak at 10? i have a feeling its the mbc b/c i cranked the **** out of it thinking my boost was low and wouldnt go past 15pouds...now if it worked it would probably go up in boost but not how it would if it was working correctly...
and all seals and clamps are on the bov...

No.
Ever noticed that when a garden hose leaks? If you've got it barely turned on, the leak will be very small, possibly no leak at all. However, when you turn it on full power, the pressure breaks through and then you can see the leak. Same principle.
10 PSI is probably still be leaking, but 15 PSI is leaking *more*...

but shouldnt my boost go up a little at least if i crank the **** out of MBC?it didnt move at all...
say like its set at 22 but leaks and reads 15...then i crank to say 26psi i leak and read 20 or so..
like a garden hose...on low the water is barely coming out and little leak you turn it up and you still get a lot of water coming out the nozzle but still a big leak...
like...i said before if im boosting 22psi and i have a leak it reads 15 now say im tuned for say...30 psi i dont think it would only read 15psi still...
idk im gonna try a different MBC..
also if there was a small leak at 10psi wouldnt i feel it?the car picks up fast still and no bogging etc and hold 10psi well

i believe the stock wastegate is sprung for more than 10 psi. i think it was 12 or 14 psi running off the wastegate. i'd probrably do a leak test. they're very easy and if you've never done one, you probrably have at least one leak.
