Exhaust Cutout?
Exhaust Cutout?
Im wondering if an exhaust cutout will do anything? I have searched and seen that it doesn't appear to make any more hp, but are any of u guys out there running them? Just like an o2 dump the e-cutout has to help spool up and i would assume a little bit of trq also. I have alot of friends running them on srt-4 and they help alot. I also have one on my big turbo syclone and it is night and day difference with it opened and closed but again i understand this is on a big turbo application. I have seen one guy MIKE1023 ( i think that is his screen name running it). Im just wondering if any of u guys are running them and what ur thoughts are on them?
Thanks for ur input

The better the exhaust system, the smaller the turbo (and power), the less of a difference it makes. As it is, I have a much larger turbo, I'm making considerably more power than you, I have a cutout (intelligently installed), and it makes no discernable difference at this point (just more noise). That may change shortly, but not for now.
In short, I advise to get a good exhaust system (they are not all created equal), and don't worry about cutouts.

i have been thinking about removing my Megan Racing baffled test pipe and putting in a custom made exhaust cutout to get rid of the baffle, and also have the cutout there for the track..
and its only 28$ plus whatever to weld on flanges and o2 bung.......

yeah thats what i was looking at. I have the cat delete pipe and they make cutout that can jsut slip in there and its done and over with. I also have an extra electic QTP cutout plate sitting around so it might work out well
This exact topic recently came up regarding another project I completed, which was a twinturbo Viper. Car made 970hp@wheels on 93 octane and 1145@wheels with 18psi of boost. Another viper with a slightly more aggressive setup made identical power at 18psi pushing through a 4" exhaust off the turbo then necking down to a 3" exhaust. He made some 4" cutouts and the car immediately picked up 200+ hp@wheels with no addition in boost.
I think to answer your question, the difference a cutout will make is all relative to your setup and the power you are making. As TedB said, it made little difference on his setup, but that is not to say it won't make a difference on someone else's setup depending on what they have.

I'm about to be running one because I am running the stock catback to keep it quiet for daily driving and road trips. Once I get another daily driver I'll get rid of it and just get a good catback but it's the best of both worlds for me for now.
I will be doing the same, running the stock exhaust with a 3" DP and e-cutout. After I am done the intall I will compare it to my full 3" Buschur exhaust. Im expecting little difference since I am only on the stock turbo but we'll see.

I ordered mine today........
I will be doing an dyno with and without the cutout open back to back. I expect some gain, no much on stock turbo, but some at least 10whp and about the same tq i would think. Only because I have a baffle in my cat, and a lot less restriction dumping out directly under the car
