Even though it's an old thread I just put in my vote for Amsoil. I use the SSO, and have been for last 2 changes (my car has 9700 on it).

i dont think i would do that to the tight tolerances of a 4G engine, 10-30w is just fine most AMSOIL oils are lubricating at a higher weight anyways.

just imagine trying to sip on orange juice, but on the other hand try to sip on syrup with the same straw ,,,,,,,

guys what better than a case of AMSOIL waiting on the feet of your door steps, dont have to go tp the store ,,, and its still cheaper shipped to you than going to the store and buying it..

ANYONE NEEDS AMSOIL WE SHIP ALL STATES

I know my eyesite is getting worse with age, but I broke out the trusty magnifying glass and thought it says Extented Performance after the Mobil 1 .

Motor Oils Tested

AMSOIL ATM
Mobil 1 Extended Performance
Quaker State Advanced Full Synthetic
Pennzoil Platinum
Trop Artic
Motorcraft
Castrol GTX
Chevron Supreme
Havoline
Formula Shell
Pennzoil

Test Areas

Thin Film Oxygen Uptake (ASTM D-4742)
High Temperature/High Shear (ASTM D-4683)
NOACK Volatility (ASTM D-5800)
Pour Point (ASTM D-97)
Total Base Number (ASTM D-2896)
Cold Cranking Simulator (ASTM D-5293)
Four-Ball Wear (ASTM D-4172)

I am sure that although misguided, your intentions were good and you need to find who gave you that information and give them a good tongue lashing. I am quite sure it was not any of the Mobil Reps I had dinner with in July at AMSOIL Corporate that gave out that info.

Also, the vehicle manufacturers do not use Mobil 1 because it is "The best $ for $" They use it because they get it below cost and Mobil also pays for the printing of the Owners Manuals and for the manufacture of the oil caps through Mobil's huge advertising budget. They spent $50 million just to advertise the EP which even by Mobil Reps was considered a Non-Event. Mobil 1 makes the $ back on aftermarket sales.

That being said.... Mobil 1 EP is a very good product.. I have never said otherwise.

Of course.... you just put in a higher viscosity oil.... You cannot compare oils that way.

My engine, when hot, has 5-8 PSI at an Idle, but picks up to 36-38 PSI as I give it throttle using the proper viscosity oil...

I am pretty sure you didn't tear your engine down after changing each oil brand, so what you are noting is that there was no damage caused by the previous oils.

The Post

Like I said it once and I will say it again...Talking oils is like talking Politics or Religion with someone everyone has their say, and everyone says theirs is the best. Especially the people selling the stuff. I used Amsoil on my Evo 8 I had, and it dynoed not one HP more than my Regular Mobil 1. On my 9 I use the Extended Performance Mobil 1 since new and when they pulled my valve cover off to do my cams you could eat off the head it was so clean in there. That is my proof its working, and doing a good job. I know several oil reps in my area due to the fact of my fathers line of work, all saying their stuff is best. Its a business, the people with the best advertising wins. Sad but true. Amsoil may be good, but for the cost, and the fact that I have to order it every time I need it, and that it showed not 1 hp difference on my Evo 8's dyno sheet. Makes me say going to Walmart and buying the Extended Performance Mobil 1 anytime I want for $3 cheaper per qt makes sense to me. To each their own. We all know Opinions are like assh_les.........we all have one.......

OIL DOC, you actually know exacly what i mean, AMSOIL is a very high quality lubricant and will perform at is best, therfore no need to add thicker oil like the OP was asking he was wondering if using 15-50w would be beneficial on an evo and i reccomended no because it would be way to thick, his reasoning was very hot weathers where he live MIAMI.

I don't think it matters as long as it is synthetic and changed often!! Many other factors are much more meaningfull.............like TUNE!!
