I've seen many Evo's with this problem. There is an easy remedy. Start using an aftermarket gear oil (BG II or Pennzoil synchromesh).

Word from Mitsubishi is DO not rest your hand on the shift knob while driving...Because It puts presure on the synchros and leads to that problem. I went throught the 5th gear grind as well, I always would drive with the hand rested on the shifter. Now I do not at all and I have NO problems. Poor design but that is a way to help it. Good Luck

I read the manual to and I dont rest my hand on the shifter.

When I'm on the highway sometimes I cant even get into higher gears and I don't want to force it in.
