G-sensor

I notice that the Evo 8 is equiped with a G sensors capable of measuring lateral and longitudinal acceleration. Is there a way to log this data so i can be put to good use?

The sensors are located in the center console next to the hand brake.

That would be the case for JDM and Euro spec cars with the AYC. Not in the US spec.

it is true for US spec evos!
there are 2 g sensors by the handbrake mount
according to the manual, they are for the abs system
don't know if the data is loggable tho - anybody with a datalogger know the answer?

Hmm that's interesting. Good to know.

i think the manual said it's part of the EBS with the ABS. I've never used a data logger before so I don't know if it's even loggable (word??). Might be cheaper just to get some sort of acceleration logger. I just thought it would be cool to log and plot the different voltages from the x and y g-sensors when you're on a track.

Anything with an electric signal is loggable.
You just need to find the right data logger....

O.K. I looked this up on techinfo and here is the scoop:

There are two G sensors as mayhem stated. The output votage for each is linear and they have an output graph on techinfo. For each sensor the 0G or neutral state reading is 2.5 volts, +1.0G is 1.5 volts, +1.5G is 1.0 Volts, - 1.0G is 3.5 volts, -1.5G is 4.0 volts.

So all we need is a circuit and led that translates votage to G reading with a lookup table or something and we could have a dsh readout of acceleration, breaking, and lateral G in realtime.

Any Electrical guys out there up for putting together a lst of parts?? I can solder well enough to put the parts together but have no clue what parts I would need.

Does anyone have the part numbers for the assembly? If I can get a spare assembly not already in the car, I could probably make an inline harness with taps.. next step would be to use a PIC or Basic Stamp microcontroller to map the voltages into G-Values, and pass them to a serial connection, in turn you can write a small app to grab the info on a pocketPC or a laptop.. Actually all you really need is to grab the voltages, the app can translate that for you... I've started several Evo specific electronic projects.. however none of them has panned out for one reason or another..
