Violent misfires, freeze plug...

Ok so I've been battling some misfires recently that I've been trying to track down and resolve. Twice now tonite though, I have had the freeze plug in the water pump pop out causing me to lose all coolant.

First time it happend, 145 dollar tow bill. Tonite I fixed it in the parking lot with some **** from advance.

Has anyone else ever had this problem or heard of that particular plug popping out?

And no, the head gasket is not blown, car runs fine after doing it, but miss is still present so no boost for me

Friend of mine popped a freeze plug when he overboosted to 30psi... oops!

Are you using colder plugs with a tighter gap?

Mine popped out when doing launch control once. I *think* the general consensus is that your head is lifting and boost pressure is getting into your coolant chamber, causing that plug to pop out. I installed ARP's and have not had the issue again. I see you are making some serious power so I'm guessing you already have upgraded head studs. Might want to re-torque them?

o-ringed block plus studs......

if boost got by the gasket once, then the gasket is no good. It would continue to degrade and finally just plain be blown and push coolant.

Its wierd...

mine is doing the same ****ing thing i tried pounding a freeze plug in it but thats not working so i'm going to put an expansion plug in it for now......I was thinking that it was time for new water pump....i think the reason for misfire is because coolant getting on serp belt and slipping so your getting voltage jumps like crazy it wont fire with out power either that or the coolant is getting on the alternator it self which i know coolant is very conductive does this make any sense to anyone?

mine ended up being related to the map sensor. Was causing a lean spike--->detonation--->lifting head.
