n00b evo question... heatsoak?

This will sound silly/stupid, but I'm curious if someone could answer my question..

I have a IX completely stock

If i take off (mild launch) my evo will rip through the gears quickly and pull hard till i stop

but if i go from a 5-10mph roll it seems like it takes alot longer to get up to the same speed.

would this account for heat soak or what? (less time in gears = less constant hot air through intercooler) I live in Florida and its pretty hot and humid out..

Maybe I'm just

It's called turbo lag.. Your intercooler is fine.

what you said makes no sense, if anything you would have a heat problem launching it since theres no air going through the intercooler at first....

it could be because your getting bad turbo lag at 5-10mph

That is not heat soak. The reason it feels faster when you launch is because you are building boost right away. When you go from a 5-10mph roll you will feel the lag more because you aren't launching the car.

I guess thats why boost off the line makes it feel a bit quicker because it doesn't need to spool..

now how does brake boosting work?

No. The Evo has the optimum intercooler mount setup - smack dab in the very front, exposed to air galore. You know very little about your amazing car. Most guys/gals know quite a bit before they get an Evo.

Brake boosting is generally used after you get a turbo up-grade for quicker spool = less turbo lag.
But to somewhat answer your question on how it works is that when your just cruising along and decide to hit the throttle and you don't accelerate right away, that is turbo lag if you didn't know. To cure this problem for the most part you brake boost. Brake boosting is when your going along you ease on and hold the brake while still giving the same amount of gas, which in turn puts a loan on the engine making it work harder, which yet again in turn puts out more exhaust gases.. which then once you release the brake the car is under some boost already due to the load you put on the engine. Now for you, I suggest you DO NOT TRY THIS!!!! Because from the simple posts that you have done in this thread alone tells us all that you desperately need to learn more about your car than what the difference between heatsoak and turbo lag is.. Read through these forums, use the search button for god sake..
