You think that the AMS 2.3 RR is cheap...???

AMS 2.3RR

its only about 1500 dollars difference from the cossie 2.2 crate engine...

...and at that money levels i dont think that the 1500 dollars is a big deal... if you are willing to spend 15-20 K on a full engine (shortblock, head, turbo kit, etc etc) plus transmission then the 1500 dollars seem pocket-change....

Cosworth + Eric Hsu = Why buy anything else?

"What a waste of a perfectly good connecting rod. I had to cut it for the sake of quality control and research and development though. I’m sending it out to our lab to do a material compositional analysis, hardness profile, bulk hardness testing, and a microstructural analysis. I bet you don’t see Eagle or those other 15 brands of piece of $hit made in China rod manufacturers doing this. Or even any of the American made rods. This is one of the reasons why Cosworth parts are expensive. You can be damn sure you’ll be getting a good part that will not fail on you though. Don’t forget people - when it comes to cars, you pay for what you get (most of the time…)." - Eric Hsu's blog

He may talk alot of **** and big-game, but he can cause he backs it up. Look at his XS Skyline.

Thats all great and everything, but there are a lot of other shops and brands who have been dealing with 4g63's for a lot longer than cosworth, that build reliable parts that have been getting the job done for decades. So AFAIC i'll keep the money i would've spent on cosworth and use it as a down payment on a house. With all the money i'd save i probably could too.

The cossie block is only 1500 more than the AMS'er. I'd hardly call that downpayment on a house. I'm sure that there are shops that have been creating great dsm's, but my point is that no shop has more R&D than Cosworth does.

Quality is one of the most subjective terms in the industry...What is quality, truly?...To me, I consider a brand quality when I have consistent, track-proven results...My definition is also cumbersome...Some consider track results to be drag strips, I am not one of them...If you want to see some of the highest quality parts in the industry, look no further than the road course...The only way to test products built for limits are to take them there...Nothing will take a motor to its limits sooner than the road course...AMS, Buschur, SBR, and others have a good deal of knowledge in the industry, but are mix-matching parts that they have tried over the years (usually, a 2.3L 4g64 crank and rod/piston combo)...Cosworth, in this scenario, has been racing for much longer than any of these companies have existed and have much more testing equipment, employees, and general research and development to make a superior product...Those who consider Buschur and AMS to the same caliber haven't tested the extreme conditions that fine tuners like Cosworth, JUN, and Garage G-Force have...

Also, to explain what I am trying to say better try this scenario...I have witnessed statements on this board saying that JAM, a well-respected 4g63 player, makes a head that will outflow the Cosworth product...While this may be true, the heads designed for the JAM application may only be beneficial on a motor with a much larger turbo...Cosworth components are able to be used to see performance benefits for even the guy who wants to stick with a less-powerful setup (or even stock turbo)...While flow may be better with the head on a 37r setup, for example, the Cosworth will still see gains but with what they consider a fair safety margin...To some, rebuilding motors and replacing failed components isn't the issue (some would rather *****-out for power, to make posts to prove what these components are capable of doing)...That's cool, but what about the few of us who buy quality because we know we are getting better than OEM reliability...That is why there is a price difference, and it is well justified for the level of safety and state-of-mind that is included with expensive components.
