EVO tuning???
EVO tuning???
I have some money to spend and I need to know how to spend it. I have an Evo V gsr and it has the following mods. Intake, decatted custom downpipe, HKS SSQ BOV, HKS EVC IV, FCON, VPC, GCC. I am getting the Blitz Nur spec r exhaust, or would someone recommend HKS hiper? first question. should the HKS FCON be able to set my ecu to run better with 93 octane? I read on a past post it should help. ok, now the fun part. with 2 to 3 grand, what would you do to an evo. keep in mind that I live in the states. Some say uprated fuel pump and injectors so I can increase boost. others say suspension. if you had 3 grand to spend on an evo, what would you do?
don't know about HKS FCon because I don't have it.
I would consider suspension and upgrading the clutch to handle the power from the extra boost (with what you have you should be able to get 1.3bar safely I think).
Suspension is nice if you are tracking it

If you don't have a good suspension yet, buy one. That's the best investment that you can do in my eyes. But don't go buying some crap japanese suspension, buy a proper rally suspension, there are many available for the Evo, f.e. Proflex, Öhlins, Dynamic,.... Also you can get some semi-racing suspensions like Drummond, but I think they also make racing ones. If you want a really good suspension, get single tube with seperate gas canisters, you can't beat that although they mostly need more servicing. Japanese companies usually sell you some crap which is overpriced for what it is. They are better than the standard suspension, but really not very good value for money. I have yet to lay my eyes on japanese made single tube, seperate gas canister shocks. Also beware of the japanese Öhlins shocks, as Yamaha owns Öhlins, they have licensed the Öhlins brand for some japanese makers that make sub-standard Öhlins shocks. If you buy Öhlins, only go for the real thing from Sweden. How will you which is which? The real thing is VERY expensive (talking substantially more than your budget)...

They are a little better absorbing, "smoother", than Proflex, almost as good as Öhlins. The main difference is in high speed bump absorption characteristics, but it´s really only a tiny one. I couldnt tell the difference before Cesar took my for a ride and explained it while driving...
The main thing really with Dynamics and Öhlins is that you have to set them up right. There´s so many people out there who buy them but no one has a clue how to set the bump and rebound and the ride height...
