stand alone or piggy back ecu?

I have an evo V gsr and people in uk say stand alone ecu is the way to go. I have looked into Apex Power FC or LINK. those are the two I have decided on because of price. a local friend of mine says Greddy E Management is a good unit. you think a piggyback is a good way to go? pros and cons for both. thanks

anyone know anything about those piggy-back units up on ebay? for $40 or whatever... is it worth it? if anyone has tried one, please post up your feelings on them. I'd like to try one, but only if it will be worth my money!

if youre ever planning to go with a bigger turbo go with stand alone. Dont waste your money on biggy buck just to replace it with standalone within few months. If not got with emanage or apex.

I've got APEXI FC...no complaints and easy to use. Just like JapSpec4G63 said standalone is the WAY to go but you have consider and honestly ask yourself; How much modding are you going to do?? Piggybacks are good bang for the buck as well as Flash but they are limited in their flexabilty. You can only bs the ECU so much before making more headaches. Either pay bucks now or pay later when run out of "bolt-on" modds GOOD LUCK !!! and FUN !!!!

Since you have an Evo V you might want to look at the GEMS stand alone units. They actually make the AEM units here, but I'm not sure if any of those will actually work on your V.

piggy back is BS... if you have a standalone avaialble, go for it...

piggyback is like putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound...

Motec - too much money but it is the best
AEM- 1400-1600 great unit and easy to use
Link- around 1000-1200 good unit but has some small bugs.
TEC3- great setup although pricey, around $2500
GEMS- same as AEM
HKS F-con- around 1400 but impossiable to get unless you are a power shop (2 in the US). one of the best stand alone EVER!!!
APEXi power FC- great unit altough a little out dated, around 1300 give or take.

that's it from the top of my head.

there are 2 kinds of F-CON, f-con s and f-con V. one is a piggy back that is preprogrammed by HKS and the other is a full stand alone ECU that i wish i can put my hands on. you can buy both but only an HKS power shop will have the support tool that is needed to tune the ECU.
